"Moving beyond apologist persuasion, LDS polemicists furiously (and often fraudulently) attack any non-traditional view of Mormonism. They don't mince words -- they mince the truth."

I bet he's just thrilled.
(Nevo, Jan 23) And the Melchizedek Priesthood may not have been restored until the summer of 1830, several months after the organization of the Church.

Do you think he'll show to pick up the award?

Naw. He'll just send the press secretary.

President Monson can now justifiably say, "I have many Gay friends."

This is awesome. What occurs to me is just how bad a decision it was for the church to really piss of the gay community. They know how to fight. They will do everything in their catty power to rip Mormonism to shreds. Ever been to a Gay parade? They HAVE no sense of what you think of as shame, Mormons! Get ready. Mormons, your lesson is thus: Don't piss off an angry bitch.
And crawling on the planet's face
Some insects called the human race
Lost in time
And lost in space...and meaning

I heard a lot of strange reactions from people about this. I have not read the story in question, but I have to remind you that being named "person of the year" isn't necessarily a good thing. When Putin was named Time person of the year a few years ago, it was a surprise to many. Time's person of the year is a "clear-eyed recognition of the world as it is and of the most powerful individuals and forces shaping that world—for better or for worse." It was pointed out that Stalin was named in 1939 and 42 and Hitler was in 1938.

Again I haven't read the Monson story, but besides being the head of the church that publicly opposed gay marriage and the one who asked a church representative to meet with the president of Affirmation (which never came to fruition), I haven't seen President Monson really affect the gay community in Utah.

The article talks about how Pres Monson's actions with Prop 8 galvanized the gay population in Utah, and how they are now more active and are raising awareness throughout Utah. Without Pres Monson taking that action, Utah gays are still where they once were.

I hope President Monson can somehow extend an olive branch, to the gay community, in the future.

Leopards don't change their spots to stripes, certainly not this late in life.
