YWs New Value "Virtue".

Post by _Imwashingmypirate »

I joined in the Young Women's class on Sunday at church, I never really grew out of it lol, and I got a shock. They have a new value.

For those who don't know, the YW theme was,

"We are Daughters of our Heavenly Father who loves us and we love him, we will stand as witnesses of God at all times and in all things and in all places as we strive to live the Young Women's values which are: Faith; Divine Nature; Individual Worth; Knowledge; Choice and Accountability; Good Works and Integrity. We believe as we come to accept and act upon these values that we will be prepared to stregnthen home and family, make and keep sacred covenants, receive the ordinances of the temple and enjoy the blessings of exhaltation."

I thought the 7 values were fine and the colours went nicely, but now Virtue has been added and it is Gold, it's a bit odd that it is gold, like it is more special. I am sure if you had divine nature, you would also have virtue so why do they need it. It's not like they are gonna break the law of chastity, they are in YWs. lol. ALso I don't think it fits in when you stand up and say it.

Shouldn't the time have been before now? Like when people started losing their virtue???

Hmm... Well I don't think there are many Mormons like that. Most of he YW lessons are about being virtuous though, the make a big deal out of being pure for your husband and temple worthy. Perhaps your friend didn't attend church all that often olol.

A new virtue, eh? Well good luck with that my dear young sisters.

New study finds virginity pledges are not effective

With the New Year comes new resolutions. And if you’re a parent of a teenager, one of the resolutions that you hope your child will make, if not already, is a pledge to wait until marriage before having sex.

According to a new study, however, parents should not sit snugly when such a pledge has been made as virginity pledge takers are not more likely than other teens to delay sex....

The sexual behavior of virginity pledgers does not differ from that of closely matched nonpledgers, and pledgers are less likely to protect themselves from pregnancy and disease before marriage,” the researchers concluded.

Hey, Pirate. You saw it before I deleted it. Ha. Nooo, she went every week to Church. A few times if I recall correctly. Her parents were TBM and I remember thinking they were very odd. I remember when I found out coffee was taboo I thought, WTFH? I woke up every morning as a teen (I was responsible for getting up and making it for my family) with a bit of coffee with my sugar and cream. Coffee was my gateway drug. ;)

Anyway, I just don't know if those promises do much more than ensure that when people slip up or change their mind that they just don't lie about it.

I think the choice as to when and to whom someone loses their virginity should be up to an individual. I think knowing how to protect yourself from disease and pregnancy is incredibly important and if the focus is on abstinence (where this from stats is NOT the norm - far from it, actually 40& of girls in their 15th year have had sex) and not being smart about sex there can be disasters.

You're smart. What's happening between the sheets isn't going to change that aspect of you unless you get stupid and don't take steps to protect yourself.

Personally, I don't see anything wrong with teaching young women (or young men for that matter) to be virtuous... as long as repentance is a part of that teaching. None of this licked cupcake or nail in the board or chewed gum BS.
If there's one thing I've learned from this board, it's that consensual sex with multiple partners is okay unless God commands it. - Abman

No, yet, it did lead to that most serious of drug addictions. The $6 cup of coffee.

There's just one problem with repentence...it might make you square with The Lord but it doesn't help with your neighbors. Once you're [fill in the analogy for tarnished] you're that for life in the eyes of people you have to live with. Especially so in judgmental societies where public face appears to be important.

You're among friends here Moniker...and we think you have a problem. Consider this an intervention.
