Its purpose(s) should have been fairly evident.

I should have been clearer. Let me say that when I went through the exhibit, I thought I understood the purposes quite well.

It was when I spoke with someone in Public Relations that was in Dresden for a big 'shin dig' at the chapel sometime after I had visited the exhibit, that I became confused. So were they.

So, I have tried a few times to grab you on this. Maybe this time, we can discuss it. I wish I had all the literature I received. I also asked my ex for her literature, but she doesn't have it anymore. I've had no luck with the missionaries in town. Do you have that in pdf form?

I wasn't aware of that. At least I don't recall it.

No. I have nothing to do with the exhibit anymore.

I helped to create it, but we've long since turned it over to Church Public Affairs.

Who said anything about Mormonism being a chip on anyone's shoulder?

Not I.

Daniel, can you read? It's right above your denial:

Daniel Peterson wrote:Mormonism is manifestly still very much on your mind, and a huge chip is on your shoulder.

Now would you care to either explain or retract your comment?
(Nevo, Jan 23) And the Melchizedek Priesthood may not have been restored until the summer of 1830, several months after the organization of the Church.

I went to the Dead Sea Scrolls exhibit when it was in San Diego a couple of years ago. It was jammed, wall to wall, with so many people, if you actually got see one of them, you were doing well. Very cool, though... very cool. It ranked right up there with the King Tut exhibit at the Chicago Art Museum that I saw several years ago. Also very cool.

As far as the exhibit itself though, it was never connected with the church in the literature nor on any signage. Was there some connection in Germany?

ROTFL.

It's really ironic that you ask me, in this context, whether I can read.

Here's how my statement goes: (1) "Mormonism is manifestly still very much on your mind, and a huge chip is on your shoulder."

In order to make the structure of the sentence even clearer, let's replace distinct nouns by distinct letters.

Let Mormonism = A.

Let mind = x.

Let chip = B.

Let shoulder = y.

So modified, my statement now reads: (2) "A is manifestly still very much on your x, and a huge B is on your y."

It's difficult to see how A = B can be derived from sentence (2).

Which means that it's very difficult to see how Mormonism = chip can be derived from sentence (1).

I tried to demonstrate that by means of my Paris:Seine::London:Thames example above, but it apparently sailed right past you. But let's try again. Let's create a sentence (3) equivalent in essential form to sentence (2), above, omitting only the inessential adjectives, adverbs, and pronouns, which won't apply in the new sentence.

Let A = Paris

Let x = Seine.

Let B = London.

Let y = Thames.

(3) "Paris is on the Seine, and London is on the Thames."

Just as A = B cannot be derived from sentence (2), Paris = London cannot be derived from sentence (3), and Mormonism = chip cannot be derived from sentence (1).

You need to read more carefully. Especially if you're intending to question the reading skills of others.

I was there, as well.

But that was a distinct exhibit. Neither the Maxwell Institute nor the Church was directly connected with it, though (if I recall correctly) some of my BYU/Institute colleagues went down to speak at public functions connected with it because of their membership in the international Dead Sea Scrolls editorial team.

And, as you would notice if you read the literature from it, co-sponsored by the Church.

The exhibit in Germany was a small traveling exhibit that was originally created in connection with the Chicago exhibit, designed to travel to smaller cities in the Upper Midwest as a companion to the larger show in Chicago itself.

Was this smaller, traveling exhibit the one with the gold plates at the end of it?

Wait a second... This was a Dead Sea Scrolls exhibit, and there were gold plates attached to the exhibit? I have to ask: Why? Is there any evidence that the Scrolls and the Gold Plates are somehow related?

This is what I am trying to figure out. I am just wondering if Dan could explain the purpose of this small, traveling exhibit. Was it supposed to be a missionary program, or a Dead Sea Scrolls exhibit?
