No not really. They actually believe what they believe and think someone resigning is an eternal error not with standing your arrogant cynicism.

You had your name removed? I thought you are still on the records.

A piece of paper saying that I am a member is irrelevant to my being in or out of the church.

You should know this Jason, or do you still think Chile taught Mormons a hard lesson in statistics?

Doing great. Attended my first week at my new church home (Trinity Episcopal Church in Redlands) - I know I made the right decision.

I am pretty sure they will not remove, delete, or destroy any wirtten or recorded information about you. One more piece of writing about you will be lumped in with the rest--that you resigned. You are on their records for good.

The apologetic front has not slowed my apostasy, neither has it hastened it...most of my interaction with Mormons and Mormonism has been through boards and blogs for the past couple of years.

I would rather be a Catholic than a Mormon, too. In fact, I AM a Catholic since I was baptized as such as an infant. My path is more likely to be the Episcopal Church, but a return to the Church of Rome is definitely within the realm of possibility. Compare the depth of writings of the Holy Father to Tom Monson.

Hey! Welcome to the board (as a non-Mormon). I'm in a very similar boat. I officially resigned just a few weeks ago. My letter was received at the Membership Records department on Jan 8 (about 6 1/2 years after my baptism). I've been generally disenchanted since 2005 and fully inactive for a little over a year, but prop 8 (especially the way members were acting over it) was the straw that broke the camels back for me as well. I assume you used the help of MormonNoMore to complete your finely worded letter? I have as well, and sent a copy to the bishop and stake president as well. I have no idea whether the rumor mill has caught up with me in my ward--I generally don't talk to but one person in it (which is scary because nearly everyone in the apartment complex is in the ward). I noted in my letter my expectation of having the matter handled with "full confidentiality." I think I've been inactive long enough for no-one to really care. But I've yet to hear anything myself from anyone--I guess the word "immediately" has slow connotations for our friends at Membership Records. Be sure and fill us in with what happens.

Sure, I was only trying to distinguish. I know for yourself you are out. Yet you are still on the records. Just wanted to clarify man.

You should know this Jason, or do you still think Chile taught Mormons a hard lesson in statistics?

ACTUS FORMALIS DEFECTIONIS AB ECCLESIA MORMONIA

To whom it may concern:

This letter shall serve as notification that I, (Phouchg), have resigned my membership in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, effective January 9, 2009 – the twelfth anniversary of my LDS baptism and eleventh of my “endowment”.

I hereby withdraw my consent to being subject to church rules, policies, beliefs and discipline. I understand what you consider to be the consequences of my resignation. I am aware that the Church Handbook of Instructions states that my resignation cancels the effects of LDS baptism and confirmation, withdraws the so-called “priesthood”, revokes what you call “temple blessings” and that I may be "readmitted to the church by baptism only after a thorough interview".

I will not be dissuaded, and I will not change my mind. Therefore, I knowingly and intelligently waive the 30-day waiting period provided for in the Church Handbook of Instructions; as such, you shall immediately process my resignation by completely and permanently deleting all of my personal information from the membership records of your church. The only official contact I wish to receive is a mailed letter informing me that I am no longer a member of your church.

That's a nice, charitable, Christ-like attitude.
