Sleeping with Joseph
Over at Hieing to Kolob today, the blogger Bored in Vernal posted on why she would have slept with Joseph Smith:

Re: Sleeping with Joseph
Let's see... I'm fourteen years old and the prophet of God, the one who is God's very mouthpiece on the earth, tells me God has commanded me to be his secret polygamous wife, and promises me that if I oblige, my family and all my posterity will receive eternal life, but if not they will have no such reward, what will I do?
I'd go like a lamb to the slaughter and sacrifice my life. I'd succumb to the most despicable and horrific acts I can imagine, allow myself to be emotionally and sexually used by an older married man so my family and posterity can receive the highest eternal reward.
I would find a way to survive.

Though I've never met him, I've been profoundly affected by the energetic and enigmatic Joseph Smith. I'll close with the sentiments of Brigham Young, which would have been mine had I been alive with the Prophet Joseph:
"I feel like shouting hallelujah all the time, when I think that I ever knew Joseph Smith, the Prophet..."
It sounds like she prefers to shout "Ooooh God!"

Study after study has demonstrated that women tend to be most attracted to powerful men. It is evolutionary.

Especially those men that offer a straight pass to eternal salvation ..
God has the right to create and to destroy, to make like and to kill. He can delegate this authority if he wishes to. I know that can be scary. Deal with it.

Oddly, the writer of the blog doesn't expand on the prerequisites for her "sleeping" with Joseph. If the content of the blog follows from the title, then "spiritual confirmation of polygamy" isn't a condition of her sealing the deal.
If that woman is married, her husband should keep her away from any scripture-quoting, philosophically-minded, virile, promiscuous gentleman that might come her way.

Send her my way if she is decent.

Figuratively, I look down at my keyboard and discover remnants of what I ate for lunch.
If I were single, she would have to be the last girl on the planet for me to have any interest in.
Does anyone here see her as one that would remain faithful to her wedding vows?

This works the same way as for chimpanzees and bonobos. (by the way the latter ones are using homosexual contacts but this is not a Prop8 thread.)

There is a lot of truth to all of your comments here. Especially this one: "her husband should keep her away from any scripture-quoting, philosophically-minded, virile, promiscuous gentleman that might come her way." LOL. He knows this, too.
Seriously though, I am a temple-married LDS, married AND faithful to DH for 25 years, 8 children. Many of my posts on my blog are tongue-in-cheek and designed to make people think. If you read me a lot, you will get to know that about me. Much of the appeal of Joseph Smith, in my opinion, did stem from the belief that he was the Prophet of God, and celestial marriage to him was the path to receipt of the highest eternal reward for self, family, and posterity. Not to mention a spiritual confirmation of polygamy.
That, and Joseph Smith was just an amazing, charismatic, enigmatic and powerful soul. I still can't wait to meet him.
