Wolfhart Heinrichs und Gregor Schoeler, Grammatik des Klassischen Arabisch (Wiesbaden: Harrassowitz 1972), ought to do.

Or, if you prefer, the early ninth-century Kitaab Siibawayh is the classical discussion of Arabic phonetics.

[But you had better confirm all of this with Inconceivable, because I'm not to be trusted on matters Arabic or Islamic.]

Sounds a bit like the language of Tatooine.

I think the writings of Dr. Peterson are a real plus for BYU and the Church.

Ok, ok, Herr Doktor,
You impressed us enough to buy it you speak Arabic and quoting Voltaire, French.
I know no Arabic, and cannot translate what you wrote. But I know 40% of Arabic nouns adjectives because I grew up in their neck of the woods.

kitaab= Book
maqaala= essay, article
taariikh al-falsafa al-islaamiyya= History of Islam
himaar = is "village idiot" in my language, perhaps arabic means different.
jaahil?= now this is interesting, it means "unlearned" "uneducated"

Of course I can not speculate in what context all these words were used.
I can tell you this much though, DCP,
I don't care how many languages you write here as if you know them, I have my doubts that you know them.
I know half dozen myself, I wouldn't quote Voltaire,Geothe, Rumi, Himmler, Heinlein, Asimov, whatever....
What'd be the point?
The guys around here are much smarter than that. I can imagine seeing any of them jaws dropped & looking at you in admiration just because you quote these exotic languages.♠

Does "falsafa" rhyme with "falsify?"

I don't see what DCP's knowledge of Arabic, and familiarity with Islam, has to do with his LDS apologetics.

Can there be no separation of these things in some of your minds? I mean, does the fact that the LDS church isn't really true have to imply that DCP doesn't really know Arabic? I'm just not getting it.

And what would that mean for all the German I learned at BYU? Joseph Smith was a philandering, deceitful conman, so I don't really know German?

Does everything that has to do with the church have to be completely bogus just because it's a manmade organization and not the actual kingdom of an Omnipotent, Kolob-dwelling mammal God?

The church has millions of well-meaning individuals, whose combined efforts in all things are not universally undermined by the fact that their religious beliefs aren't actually founded on reality.
Mormonism ceased being a compelling topic for me when I finally came to terms with its transformation from a personality cult into a combination of a real estate company, a SuperPac, and Westboro Baptist Church. - Kishkumen

I understand what you're saying Seth, and I agree with you. But, for the record, aren't the apologists the ones who started this game? Aren't they fond of arguing that because they do have legitimate scholarly acheivements and that their brains do not change when they put their apologetic hats on, that critics should recognize the legitimacy of their apologetic work? Isn't it they who can't make the separation?
Lou Midgley 08/20/2020: "...meat wad," and "cockroach" are pithy descriptions of human beings used by gemli? They were not fashioned by Professor Peterson.

LM 11/23/2018: one can explain away the soul of human beings...as...a Meat Unit, to use Professor Peterson's clever derogatory description of gemli's ideology.

Bravo, Seth! Excellent point.

A Mormon can divide his mind into one compartment for rational professional pursuits and another for irrational religious beliefs. No problemo! If DCP can separate the issues, then we should be able to, too. I respect his abilities and accomplishments, not to mention his sense of humor and willingness to spend more time here than at MA&DB.

Probably nothing, but I hear Arabic every day that I work, and although I've been taught a few words I've already forgotten them. My hat is off to anyone who can master this language.

Wow. We have Peterson here. Whoopie-do.

Why don't you get Borders to sell a few copies to some Imams in that little shop they have in Mecca. Then let's get some feedback from someone with a real accent.
