I'm not the one who posted it, and I didn't make any uncivil (or even snarky) comments regarding it. I'm not even sure anyone in this thread made uncivil remarks.

Dr. Shades, TAK and Harmony expressed sympathy, and the thread veered into more general discussion about the trials of modern dating, and the intellectual capacity of certain Canadians. Nowhere is anyone mocking or making light of this turn in Tal's life. Tal is not only a member of this forum, but a public figure in his own right, so I would suggest there is nothing inappropriate in this discussion.

The most recent update of Tal's Wiki entry makes no mention of any separation. It was updated on 22 January 2009, at 19:41.

According to John Larsen:

John Larsen wrote:I contacted Tal. He and his wife have separated.

I really don't care about Tal's and Tracy's personal life. But I'm wondering if all these expressions of sympathy and empathy are premature?

Did Tal tell John Larsen the truth? Both Tal's official website and his MB are down, so maybe he's sorting things out?

There is really only one thing I am interested in here: Was John Larsen told the truth?

I would imagine that a well-known public figure such as Tal Bachman would have announced this in some way, yet I've searched in vain to find any announcements to back up John's comment. So I'm a bit puzzled, having expected to see it officially announced after John posted that they had separated. I even thought it might be an MDB "media coup".

That's the "gramps looks like Michel Foucault" effect. Thousands of European women with a Foucault fetish have had to settle for someone who's 1) alive and 2) straight. As a result...your full social calendar.

When I saw this thread, I was a little worried that it might be false since Tal has some strong enemies in the online community and I wanted to give him a chance to defend himself. I sent a private email to Tal alerting him that a discussion was taking place about him on this board, and he might want to review it. I have never met Tal, but I have corresponded briefly with him in times past. I had his email due to common participation in some ex-Mormon communities.

His response was this:

"You can say you talked to me, and that my wife and I have separated, if you want. Doesn't matter to me so much what the thread says..."

I have no stake whatsoever in the truthfulness of the ad, but wish everyone to have the right to defend their name. I would suppose that Tal pulled down the add due to the negative publicity. I would also assume *although I do not know* that many have contacted him with abusive emails as that is the modus operandi for some Mormons. I still have the email and can demonstrate its truthfulness, but I feel no further need to do so. Someone would first have to explain what possible motivation I would have for lying. I think it is clear that Tal read the thread and felt it unnecessary to comment.

The place to look for "official" announcements about celebrities is magainzines like People. It's a bit more reliable than the Book of Mormon when it comes to truth.
(Nevo, Jan 23) And the Melchizedek Priesthood may not have been restored until the summer of 1830, several months after the organization of the Church.
