In order to make up for Scratch's absence, I offer you all the following tidbits from MADB today:

"ironically Mormonism is all about truth." - a Mormon poster
"Just as Ironic is that main stream Christianity is also all about truth." - a mainstream Christian poster

Ironically, neither of these people seem to realize why those things are ironic.

Best,

But how do these statements reveal me to be a vicious smear-meister and a paid Mopologist hack?

Unless and until you can answer that question, you'll never be an adequate stand-in for Scratch -- though you may well be a member of his creepy network of anonymous "informants."

He's taken off for much longer periods in the past. He is very busy and really doesn't have time for the board. You'll never hear that from him, because he's a notch above those (including me) who try to prove to everyone that they have a real life by downplaying the board or documenting all the things they are doing in real life, announcing leave, breaks, retirements, and so on. When he's got the time, he consecrates it, otherwise he just leaves it alone and gets done what he needs to do in reality. I would wager Mister Scratch is one of the highest functioning people on this board.

Huh??? I see very few announcing breaks from this board. Most of us, like you hero, come and go and actually do have very busy and highly functioning lives. If you would wager otherwise you would make a rather naïve wager since you know literally nothing about most of our activities outside this board. Nothing.

Your post is rather pandering really.

Just remember, "my hero" isn't making these comments about himself. And in this case, you are announcing your own "highly functional" "very busy" life. While Scratch, humbly makes his points and moves on.

But I hope you'll consider some serious criticisms of The FIRM™

I can only speak for myself here, but there are some reasons I'd be less likely to have a problem with "The FIRM" -- nice play by the way -- than I would with FARMS. From what I gather, Brother Meldrum is an unashamedly successful business man. He strikes me as believing that it's natural, if one has felt called to defend the church's claims, to start a successful business doing so that can spread the message worldwide.

Now, is he wicked for doing this, instead of going out into the world without purse or script? That's up for Jesus to decide at the judgement bar. I do think a case could be made on these grounds. I don't recall Scratch ever having a problem with FARMS making money or its contributors getting paid, so I would wonder why Scratch would have a problem with Meldrum.

The problem with many who are associated very closely with FARMS are the charges against critics and even Chapel Mormons (including Meldrum!) of being highly motivated by money. So when you have on one hand, "The Old Cash Nexus" charges against people FARMS apologists disagrees with, along with their own boasts about "shoe string budgets" and not getting paid, and then from the eerie shadows, a well-compensated fundraiser materializes, it seems awfully hypocritical and suspicious.

Which has no bearing on the ridiculous pandering of your post. It really was astonishing.

How so? I said nothing about my life. I just said you know nothing about what anyone does outside this board so you cannot say how much more engaged scratch is then anyone else. Your hero worship is impairing your rationality.

Which is why Jason found your post a tad pandering.

Frankly, I'm a little puzzled at this observation. I can count on one hand the number of times people have inadvertently mentioned that they were traveling, etc. And, I don't think it really had anything to do with someone trying to "prove" they had a life outside the board. I think it's pretty obvious that ALL of us have active lives outside the board.

I know that there have been a couple of occasions when I have been in a thread discussion with someone, and have mentioned I was traveling and wouldn't have a lot of computer access. This was not to "prove" anything, but simply so the person, or group of individuals I was having a discussion with didn't think I was rude by not responding. That, to me, has been the primary motivation I have seen by posters here when mentioning travel or extended work obligations.
