The pretense doesn't work with me, Scratch. I don't believe that you're a genuine paranoiac.
There's nothing paranoid in noting your obvious hostility towards me, and your rather transparent desire to see harm befall me. Despite your over-the-top caricatures of me, the truth of the matter is that I have never posted private material about you, nor have I ever made any physical threats against you---"jokingly" or otherwise. I suppose your comment here is supposed to somehow justify your behavior. The pretense doesn't work with me, Dan.

People find all sorts of legitimate reasons to drop little achievements or indicators of wealth and lifestyle in these posts. I'm just saying, Mister Scratch has been able to get along fine without having to inadvertantly "wow" his audience this way. I also disagree with DCP that this is only to protect his identity. There is virtually nothing revealed about identy when dropping many of the typical little boasts. Mister Scratch could mention driving a 80k luxary car or many other things without it betraying his anonymity.

Well, considering that I went back to school at 34, and got my Master's degree while teaching full time with two small children, I will admit, I'm proud of that achievement.
That being said, however, considering that there seem to be quite a few posters here with their PhD's, I'm rather intimidated. My work on my own PhD is extremely slow-going, so I'm rather jealous of anyone who already has their work done.
Honestly, the only thread I can recall where I really went into any detail about my Master's was in the Off Topic thread last year when I was excited about going on sabbatical. I guess that could be conceived as bragging, but that wasn't how I really intended it to come across. Oh, well.
You have every right to be "proud" of your achievement Liz. Jason also has every right to be proud of his ability to provide well for his family, to drop 120$ for dinner. DCP has every right to be proud of his success, his world travels, his many prominent friends -- kings, magistrates, scholars, politicians, tycoons, and so on (and on and on). Bill Hamblin has every right to be proud that he once was paid 1,000$ for a single lecture. I'm sure Mister Scratch has a few things he has a right to be proud of too. I'm sure there have been occasions in discussions on this board, where he could have illustrated a point or backed it up by relating a personal story that just happens to spotlight one of his own achievements. All I am saying is that I am in awe of his humility because he hasn't done so. That really seems to bother people. Also, you were the one who said you've only seen people mention something about their personal life (that illustrates their success or money) 5 times in the board history. And that's just not true.
It was Jesus, not I, who said, "blessed are the meek".

OK, Gad...I'm tired, and I exaggerated. My point is that I don't think people are going around purposely bragging just for the sake of bragging. Normally, it's more in the context of simply not wanting to be rude, or to further back a point.
Frankly, I would LOVE to see Scratch relate a personal incident to further back up a point. He is kind of a "mystery man" in our little group here.

I don't consider that humility. Or to be more precise, I'm not sure the reason he doesn't add personal touches is humility, and I'm not sure anyone could make that assumption based on his posts.
(Nevo, Jan 23) And the Melchizedek Priesthood may not have been restored until the summer of 1830, several months after the organization of the Church.

So would I. However, given what appears to me to be an insistence on following the footsteps of Jesus, I'm doubting that he will.

Good grief.
I think I'm going to swoon.
I don't believe that many of us have fully appreciated, until now, being in the presence of such holiness, such peerless personal sanctity. My computer would probably glow even if I unplugged it.
Depart from me, Mister Scratch, for I am a sinful man.
