I think that you are confusing the Recovery/Postmo boards with MA&D.

Rough Stone Rolling is a terrific book. Of course some members will question the substance of the book but they should expected to know that Joseph Smith was not a perfect individual and had faults as human being. However, this may escape some members.

Actually, Joseph Smith's faults can be extremely faith promoting as they show a man who also had his struggles and tribulations.

Sort of like how David Koresh's faults escaped his own followers?

In your opinion, is there any form of misconduct so egregious as to cause one to lose his prophethood? If so, what is it?

Now Shades we cannot compare Koresh and Smith. But I do know that such comparisons are made by critics who wish to try to take a cheap shot.

As for your second question. Difficult to say. Peter denied the Christ three times and yet, he was not forsaken. And so, it is difficult to say. But what I do think is this: Joseph Smith died because he had to die when he did. His time was up and it was time for a new direction and BY was the man to lead the saints to new pastures. Joseph Smith's work was over. Thus, he lost his prophethood upon death.

Why can't we compare them? Why is that a cheep shot? Who wrote these rules? How is Koresh that much different than Smith?

There were obvious differences, but to compare and contrast these individuals can be nothing but informative.

I think Oral Roberts is the closest comparison to Joseph Smith.

Be kind, why me. Sometimes we critics forget that Joseph is excused from any comparisons to David Koresh, Charles Tayes Russell, Edward Cayce, Benny Hinn, Jim Jones, Jim Baker, Mary Baker Eddy, Ellen White, and Pearl Curran.

If I remember correctly, the last email I got from the Council For Regulating the Analogous Discussion of LDS Religious Leaders (CRADL) gives approval only for comparing LDS prophets to Jesus Christ, other LDS Leaders, Biblical prophets, C.S Lewis, Emanuel Swedenborg, and Messiah Ben Joseph.

Any other comparisons in online or published articles, forums or blogs are unauthorized, and are specious by definition, and may be actively ignored or discarded without feelings of doubt or hypocrisy.

We should all know that by now, but it's good to be reminded when someone slips.

Brilliant!

Cult leaders are often considered Deity (or speaks to "him"), blindly followed by the members, and takes multiple sex partners. How is that a poor comparison to Jones or Koresh?

I don't think so. But they can of course bring to mind connotative references which are not very positive. Thus, these people are brought up by the critics. Now lets look at the details. Koresh, went down with the ship and his followers followed him in a burst of flames. Joseph Smith went alone with a couple of volunteers. Only his brother died with him. Plus, after death, the LDS church thrived, the branch davidians died out, more or less.

Comparison to Hinn is a stretch also. Hinn has a traveling show and no church. In fact, he encourages donations for his cause and asks his followers to attend the church of their choice. Likewise for Joyce Meyer. When both kick the bucket, their ministries will follow with them. They are one man/woman shows.

The LDS church is an established church and survived the death of Joseph Smith, much to the dismay of the Mormon haters.

Now we can make a comparison perhaps to Martin Luther, John Knox, John Calvin etc. The connotation would be much more positive. Thus, not used by the critics.
I intend to lay a foundation that will revolutionize the whole world.

My case in point! Now Martin Luther, John Knox and John Calvin would be much better and bring to mind a more positive connotation but Bishop Ric just can't do it. Better to stick with negative connotations.
