Hi TD, thanks for such a thought provoking post.
I don't think it's Mormon Jesus' style. They (the Mormon Jesus and the Mormon God) don't show up until nearly everything has become far beyond redemption They fix things by destroying people and things (the flood, Sodom, Philistine cities, Nephite cities at Jesus' death, the sunami last year etc.). Before throwing their occasional unhinged rage they expect you to take follow old men that can't be trusted to convey a message that remains consistant.
The Mormon church honestly believes that 19 year old boys have the capacity to convey the Mormon God's pre-tantrum warning message.
The hierarchy does not teach that the world has a future. They believe that the majority of humankind will only become increasingly rotten.
They teach that life as we know it will end "shortly", "nigh at hand", "quickly" etc. - and Jesus will come as a "thief in the night" to fix things for the last time by once again destroying men, women and innocent children. Laying waste to the people that judged boys in business suits to be too young to take seriously.
Their investment is in a second coming that will bring about a utopia that man is incapable of creating on his own. This dream blinds their vision of any hope for new technologies that will bless the earth and it's inhabitants in the next 100 years.
