You misunderstand and are guilty of failing to understand that they didn't have lightsabers back then. This is obviously what they are describing but lacked the word for it.

Anyone ever seen an angel? From what I've read everything about them appears to human eyes to be flaming (queue gay jokes.....NOW!)

If I knew how, I would link to the next thread where there has been discussion of a mob who did mistake angels for flaming queers, prompting Lot to offer his daughters instead.
Anyway, although the flaming sword was not specifically mentioned, poor old Onan was slain for not bonking his brother's wife in the approved manner. So there is sort of a precedent.
