"It's most definitely not "the source" of that teaching, which both antedates it and exists far beyond Mormondom."

Peterson, you are a Ass. While the book is not "THE source" of the teaching, it is one solid source written by a recent Apostle and LDS Church President.

You are like Bill Clinton on aruguing the meaning of what is, is.

Bill was accurate in that he 'did not have sex with that woman'. I know a number of Bishops who would back him up as 'no penetration, no sex', and that is how they get their BYU Blowjob queens and their rule skirting boyfriends into the Temple for marriage.

Just as LDS, Inc. hides behind lawyers you are hiding behind asinine reasoning. How many of Joseph Smiths wives can dance on the head of a pin?

Before a noun beginning with a vowel, Joe, use an rather than a.

The funny thing is that I'm under attack on another thread for trying to make sure that such people don't sneak into the temple.

Well, I'm guilty of that and I might as well be guilty of this, too! The important thing is that I'm guilty. And bad. And stupid. Or whatever.

and Dan,

In the mean time, why don't you at least delete your self serving, dumb-ass post I referenced.

At least you got the indefinite article an right. Joetheclerk thinks I'm "a ass."

Inc, I don't mean to be an ass either, and I think you do have a point to some extent. For this reason I've seriously been thinking of deleting my blog. Too many personal references. Too much information. And maybe next time I blog, if I ever do, I should be more cautious (my blog is now retired). I'm still undecided, because several people have asked me not to delete it.

Spencer Kimball's biography also contained a lot of information, and those reading it would easily recognise themselves, though none were named in the more "sensitive stories". He recorded interview after interview, and his dealings with certain people who would have recognised themselves. Like the businessman who felt aggrieved at his (SWK's) dealings with him, and SWK apologised and offered to make restoration after he was called as an apostle.

I can tell you now, the story of a lady who came to me when I was a bishop. For over 20 years she never confessed an abortion to any bishop. During one Sacrament meeting, I gave a talk titled "the miracle of forgiveness", and she said that talk inspired her to do what she had never done with any other bishop - confess something that had haunted her for 20 years. I have never revealed her name, and never would, but I don't think she'd be offended at me relating this. And there's probably a one in a million chance she will read it.

I think the material to skip is on the order of sentences, maybe even paragraphs, but definitely not pages (and I have actually read the book, although I honestly don't remember that part).

Dan,

I'll pull the references in my posts anyway.

I don't care who you think you are. You need to come to your senses.

Nor do I care who you think you are, though I echo your advice, to you.

You have no idea how off target you were.

In any event, you could have sent me a quiet but concerned private message. I wouldn't be so quick, given the way you behaved, to label somebody else an ass.

Ray,

I think you're right. We ought to keep the confidences of victims and those that have confessed to us seeking absolution (at least within the bounds of the law).

Student wards are what they are, regardless of this bishop's egocentric perspective. He stepped over the line on this one. We're not all stupid here.

I'm pretty familiar with Kimball's autobiography as well. It's at least fortunate for the ones he wronged that he became an apostle. I hope the Mormon that owes me several thousand dollars will settle with me when the Mormon God calls him to sit at the head table.

I do not use my real name in internet forums because, in part, I do discuss things that would unecessarilly embarrass others. It's not just about me. If I were more arrogant and self serving everyone would probably know who I am. Regardless, I certainly would use more disgression when discussing my personal community with others.
