Re: Apostacy big winner at oscars
It's OK to love your child, as long as you continue to fast and pray for them, call them to repentence, and work with the bishop to get them back on the straight and narrow path. That is what LDS consider "loving" your child. I don't know any TBM parent of a "wayward" child who publicly says they love their child for who they are, and are proud of the choices they have made because they are so happy now. Holy crap, can you imagine someone saying that about their gay child?
Some may approach it this way. Some don't. I am quite proud of my son who is a Marine even though his lifestyle is not what I would pick for him. We only discuss religion if he brings it up. I don't push him, and he knows that I accept and love him no matter what. I am fairly open about this in my LDS circles.

Half a minute. Jason Bourne is an LDS.
Doesn't he get to say something about 'what LDS consider "loving" your child'? And I am not sure that I have to agree with my children's choices and celebrate them in order to qualify as 'loving and supporting' them, even if I am delighted if they have found a way to live happily.
My comments weren't meant to be an attack on Jason. I'm sure he loves his kids just as much as I love mine. His comment suggests he openly loves and supports his kids. I believe he, just like Dustin Black's mom and many other LDS I know, are the exception to the rule. I spent most of my life within the LDS culture. From my experience, LDS are not taught to accept alernative lifestyle choices, even among their children. And any LDS with a "wayward" child, no matter how happy or fulfilled that child is, tends to always be saddened by them, and is racked with guilt over what they did to "lose" their child.
Don't you think Dustin Black's mom was filled with pride for her son on Sunday? I'm sure she would've rather he went to church, but he made different choices than she would've made, and he's happy, and I'll bet that makes her happy. She should be celebrating her son's decisions.

I haven't seen the movie, so can only comment on a general concept:
1. no one deserves to be killed because of their sexual orientation.
2. no one deserves to be marginalized, ostracized, shunned, deprived of family love and support, or be discriminated against due to their sexual orientation.
And Gaz knows he's not in compliance with the gospel. He's just ranting.
In the movie, H. Milk is not killed because he is gay. The guy who kills him actually accepted and befriended him, didn't have a problem with him being gay. He was killed for other reasons.
As far as Gaz knows he's not in compliance with church teachings, I don't get that sense at all. A few times he's mentioned how this screen writer should know better as he was taught better morals growing up a Mormon.

Jason Bourne wrote:
Here is what I would say:
Gaz, while the gospel you believe does call any sexual activity outside of marriage a sin your response toward homosexuals is over the top and not even in line with what you spew out here.
You are far to pious, indeed perilously pious in your sweeping condemnation. It is not for you to judge. Remember with the same judgment with which you judge you will be judged.
So essentially Gaz's attitude is a function of the Church, he is taught homosexuals are sinning. Of course he's going to judge, everyone judges others, that's what people do.
Jesus hated sin but loved the sinner. Do you Gaz?
What does your church teach about loving the sinner.
Jason, if Gaz said he loved homosexuals but didn't accept their private sexual activities, that's pretty much the same thing as not accepting the person.
The LDS position on homosexuality is not to condemn them. They are welcome to be members of the Church. They are expected to obey the law of chastity like any other member. It is though quite a conundrum for an gay person to be LDS because they can never marry or have a physical intimate act with a person they are attracted to or love.
Obviously the Church reject homosexual and makes them feel guilty.
in my opinion it is an almost no win in the LDS Church for someone who truly is homosexual.
So yea Gaz, you are over the top here even for the LDS Church.
What you seem to downplay and not acknowledge Jason, is the responsibility the Church has for the attitude that people like Gaz has.

Marg,
I saw the film with my lady, and I'm going to disagree with you a bit. Remember when Dan White was called in to the policemen's office? The implication of that closed-door meeting was they didn't like the f*ggots and Dan needed to get his job back so they could do something about it.
I wonder, though, if Dan himself had been threatened? He seemed like he was under a tremendous amount of stress after that meeting. I wonder what was said...

Uh, hello, that meeting never took place. It was something Black made up.

Well, hi there, you little cockroach with pelagra or whatever. And you're still so very, very wrong about everything. Love, L. McE.
Hi love! It is Nazi pellagra with a cockroach-infested soul. :D

That being said:
Who murdered whom?
I find it disheartening that a murderer, the highest order of sin, is considered a hero. Isn't it wonderful? Isn't it marvelous?
Dan White was not a hero because he killed Moscone and Milk. He was a hero for the virtuous acts he committed before the shootings.
