You know, Jesus is dead, too, and he's not coming back either.
Your opinion is noted.

I acknowledge that the LDS Church's view on homosexuals can fuel attitudes like Gaz reflects. I acknowledge that the LDS Church's view on homosexuality as a sinful activity when acted on contributes to feelings of guilt in those who may be LDS and homosexual. The LDS Church does distinguish between homosexual feelings and tendencies that are not acted upon and those acted upon. Feelings and tendencies not acted upon are not considered sin.
I will acknowledge that the LDS Church's position on homosexuality is derived from Biblical scripture and direction be those who believe God is speaking or inspiring them as prophets and apostles.
So yea, the Church certainly molds and shaped Gaz to come to some of the views that he holds. But the way he writes, condemns, acts harshly about, and so on the Church would condemn as well.
But yes, the position of opposing acting out on homosexual activity is certainly part of LDS dogma.
I saw the film with my lady, and I'm going to disagree with you a bit. Remember when Dan White was called in to the policemen's office? The implication of that closed-door meeting was they didn't like the f*ggots and Dan needed to get his job back so they could do something about it.
I wonder, though, if Dan himself had been threatened? He seemed like he was under a tremendous amount of stress after that meeting. I wonder what was said...
Im the movie he was under stress before the meeting. Remember, no one would support Dan's various political initiatives. Originally he attempted to team up with H. Milk, so that each would at least have each other's support. Eventually H. Milk didn't need his support and voted against one of his initiatives. Dan ends up quitting the job, before the meeting you mentioned. And because the mayor wouldn't take back Dan's resignation at Milk's request he shoots both the mayer and Milk. But the way it's portrayed in the movie Dan didn't seem to have any problem with homosexuality. He even invited Milk to his child's christening and was pleased to see him there.

Uh, hello, that meeting never took place. It was something Black made up.
Um, hello? I'm talking about the film?
Marg,
After Dan White resigns from his job, there is a meeting with the police where the police brass pressure White to withdraw his resignation. Harvey Milk implies, or the film implies, the police wanted to keep their man in City Hall.
What I wonder is if the police pressured Dan to such an extent that he felt like he had no recourse other than to assassinate the Mayor and Mr. Milk. I'm not sure..., but it was provocative for sure.

I came by to pick up a PM and I don't know why I chose to read this thread, but there it is. Okay, here's my brillant 2 cents.
One of Gaz's mistakes is that he fails to synthesize the teachings of the church (or Bible...take your pick) and instead compartmentalizes or centrates on one teaching. In this case, sex outside of marriage is a sin, homosexual sex is an abomination.
I need to shut up.
And stop reading.

If Jesus was alive today, who would he be hanging around with: You, or the people you despise?
He would tell members to go among the wicked and bear testimony of the gospel. Bear testimony that there is a proper way to live ones life that brings ultimate happiness and eternal reward.
To call the wicked to repentance.
Oh look, I'm doing that now.

I thought that was the case. All you need now is a beard and a staff which can turn into a snake.
Why would God allow someone to be born biologically Gay, then call that person "wicked" if they act upon their biological feelings?
So, if you think gays and lesbians are the most horrible perverted creatures on the earth, (the least), would you say such things to Jesus Christ? You do know you are doing as much right?
If Christ was a practicing homosexual he would cease to be God. So yeh, I'd call him to repentance.

Not even God is perfect. So he screwed up when he made the gays, big deal. The important thing is the gays need to overcome God's mistake and live life the way a heterosexual does.
