It was a pleasure to provide the forward to your book, Mercury. Is it selling well?

It would be interesting to know about the nature of the study. How rigorous was it?

I wonder if the large population of young people doesn't contribute. Hormones blazing, unmarried, trying (often) to live more or less chastely, computer-savvy . . .

It's not good news from a believer's standpoint, of course, if it's at all accurate. But there may be explanatory factors that would be worth knowing. Maybe even some factors that skew the results a bit.

The galleys were recieved well. After the initial run I have sold much more than originally anticipated by my publisher. My deal with Deseret Bookstores was the real genius idea my agent worked out. They keep selling out!

Maybe being a taboo in the Mormon community makes it more tantalizing? Maybe not having the ability to have sexual relationships freely without guilt before marriage leads to curiosity on the internet?

It is often amazing when it come to porn, everyone is in denial. Some evangelicals accept that there is a problem and have such org as Covenant Eyes (Job "I have made a convenant with my eyes") to help people (including Pastors) to deal with it. Some research has shown that watching porn makes you stupid, it effects the frontal lobe of your brain.(see http://candeocan.com/) .Dr. William Struthers, a psychology professor at Wheaton College in Wheaton Ill. says that "Pornography is crack for the eyes," . There are Mormon therapists who recognize there is a problem and offer help. There was a program online of someone from LDS Social Services giving a seminar on the issue.

There's definitely a problem, and it's worse than I had realized until recently.

The worst cases that I encounter are those that seem to involve genuine debilitating addiction.

The author of the study does note "Sellers of adult entertainment face a variety of competing free material."

When you get down to the nitty gritty statistics in the study, it turns out that when access to broadband internet is accounted for, there is very little variation across the country. Utah is slightly higher (5.46 of every 1,000 broadband households), while the least subscribing state is Montana at 1.92 per 1,000 households. The author notes that the ratio is relatively small.

Here's the study...

Red Light States: Who Buys Adult Online Entertainment?

(Interestingly, the data is zip-code specific, so it would be possible to publish usage results for each zip-code in Utah and see if zip codes with a large gentile population subscribe at a greater rate than zip codes with more LDS, to test Dr. Peterson's hypothesis).

Candeo Program $197.00

As you begin the Candeo Online Recovery Training Program, you are embarking on your own personal journey to freedom. Your Candeo program also includes a $47.23 monthly subscription (the first two months are included in the price of your training course). This monthly fee provides you with a personal Candeo Program Coach and full access to Candeo-Plus.

Clearly candeo.com have nothing to gain by trying to persuade people who look at pornography that they have a dangerous addiction.

Anyway - now you have something to do with all the money you will save by not looking at pornography pay-sites!

Well, the question becomes: what's the difference between this as an addiction of a dangerous habit and the regular practice of a recreational activity? Seems like if we look at it scientifically, there is hardly measure for it...it's only if you project moral values on it that it is one or the other.
