I've told some others here that I don't come by here much, and that when I do, its really just to "stir the pot"; to kick the ant hill when I'm feeling feisty.

The board serves no other real purpose. The MAD board is where I'm spending most of my time now, and both the intellectual atmosphere and general tenor of civility there is much more to my liking. I can't understand why I haven't participated there much more over the years than I have, except that this place has a kind of dark, pornographic attraction; like a gory car accident or little dark room with windows surrounded by pink lights and covered with cheap bedsheets.

Its quite cathartic now and then (once a week or so), and allows me to keep in touch with my inner Hominid.

I have long ago given up defending the Church here in any intellectually substantive manner, for the simple reason that intellectual substance is neither desired nor reciprocated.

This place is a self parody of the entire anti-Mormon, and especially secular exmo world, and its deserves really nothing more than what it exudes. To take the critics of the Church who are the primary inhabitants of this intellectual and moral hovel seriously is masochistic. And I've just grown tired of the self flagellation.

And yet, there's something about flagellation qua flagellation...

You have first hand knowledge about why Natives die an average of 15 years earlier than most whites, but it doesn't sound like your experience softened your heart any.

Look I was just pointing out how absurd it is to punish someone by not allowing them to serve the mission. It's like punishing a criminal by not allowing them to pay taxes even though they really love the country.

Actually I did feel very bad for the natives. It was almost unbearable at times but I had to toughen up a little just to march through those two years. I've given money and support to several friends I have there.

But no, I don't want to open up the border and turn my retreat away from that God forsaken place into northern Latin America. So if that means I don't have a good heart by your standards so be it. I'm not real happy with this country anyway. So when Latin culture is implemented here and it starts smelling worse than Guatemala itself, I'll be done shedding tears for it. It's time for a revolution and the birth of a new nation.
