Obama is an economic genius
He recommended stocks the other day because they have a good "profit to earnings ratio". P/E ratio is price to earnings ratio you genius.

I hope you never slip up on a word around people who will forget all your stellar qualities, while dwelling on that one incident.
Where were you when our last president was lying out of his butt so that he could take a Saddam trophy home to daddy?

The project is expected to support 60 jobs and be completed by late this fall, according to state officials.
Those workers, people who need to eat just like you and me, will probably be kept on to continue fixing the badly kept roads in this area. Have you ever driven up 295? Your muffler had better not be loose.
I can't wait to see how many more people who need it will soon be working.

Hi Richard,
As I have stated before, the mess our WORLD is in is something we have never before seen. Even the best economic minds in the world are unclear and have differing opinions on how to fix our global economy with the least amount of damage.
Seems to me that most respected experts (not Rush Limbah & Co.), think Obama is on the right track. While most suggest he is not bold enough, others think he is too bold, so taking a middle ground may be a good bet.
I don't understand why the extreme right folk are so picky, even wanting the plan to fail. I really don't understand this mindset.
To let the market "take care of itself" is really suggesting we go into a downward spin where millions of people in our country will be on the streets, starving, living under bridges. Most Americans are not of the mindset that this is a good thing. Further America is in this mess with the rest of the world. It is much more complicated than the last century's depression.
(Just to be clear, I don't claim to be an expert and am certainly not an economist so I get my information from sources I consider experts namely The Economist).

We were in a bull market for way too long. Everyone saw the handwriting on the wall, but no one wanted to admit it.
What I don't understand is that if the investors grew some balls, they could help fix things instead of making it worse.
On the one hand, you have the world praising the fact that we have done something great..reversed prejudice.. elected an African American president...and the morning after the election, what happens? The market tanks. Sour grapes, anyone?
Way to prove a point. Let's just screw everyone.

Re: Obama is an economic genius
Although it's true that the government, the big banks, the stock market folks, etc. all play a part in this mess, so does the average consumer. We want what we want right now, and we get very upset if someone tells us "no". Consequently, houses were sold to people who had no way of paying for them, who bought houses that were too big and fancy, who bought cars that were too big and fancy, who went head over heels into debt to finance a way of life they simply could not afford. Now everyone, even those of us who were prudent with our money, has to pay for that stupidity and lack of foresight.

"A Saddam trophy home to daddy." LOL, Sam! That's pretty good.
RichardMdBorn, regardless of the humorous way she phrased it, I think the essence of Sam Harris's question is a relevant one: If that's how you feel about Obama's comment, what are your feelings about the flood of similar comments from our last president? And did you cut him more, as much, or less slack than you just cut Obama, above?

Re: Obama is an economic genius
If I want to blame a President, I blame both Bushs and Clinton. I don't believe that the invasions of Afghanistan and Iraq were needed. The idea that an invasion was going to create a modern American revolution towards democracy was fairy tale thinking and hopelessly expensive. Clinton's turning the mortgage business around to try to make sure everyone could have a home, including those who couldn't afford one didn't help.
We need to stop our foreign adventures and return to sound economic policy. We need to go back to needing 10-20% down to buy a home. I don't think Obama's package will work. I think we need to let those getting foreclosed on sell their homes and bring real estate prices down. Some businesses need to fail. Then we'll rebuild.

We don't have to want to. Socialist plans always fail anyway because they reduce freedom and democracy without exception and at some point, the leadership always recognizes that capitalism is the way to go as illustrated here. Some leaders make the realization, but their country is so messed up that chaging to capitalism (and hence, Democracy) is suicide. North Korea case in point.
The problem is momentum. Conservatives are defending freedom and Democracy because we love it. We know from history that it hard to change back once slick left wing mobsters are in power and control the media.
