Those who know so much about how our economy works, and especially, predicted economic doom the day Obama took office, I have a couple questions:

1) How much money have you made in the real estate and financial markets last year?

2) How much money have you made in invenstments since Obama took office?

Nobody really knows how Obama's plan will work.

Obama's plan probably sucks. Just as any plan would. Spending 2 trillion on a war with Iran might be just as good of an idea. I think any given economic plan would be more or less like any given diet. You can argue about which diet is better, but the benefits beyond reduced calories are eternally debatable and impossible to prove.

The disanalogy to a diet would be that diets are pretty much guaranteed to work. 2-3 trillion on anything is enough that it might do something if we get lucky, or might prolong our agony for years to come if we don't.

It's a coin flip.

Right. Basically what happened was Bush went out to dinner with all his pals, had a seven course meal complete with two wars on the side, and when Obama came to sit at his table the check was still there, cause Bush had dined and dashed. Obama gets stuck with the check, but we the American people are going to be doing dishes to pay the bill.

I'm not going to pretend to be an economist (smile) but I do read The Economist and listen to well respected economists opine on the topic and is seems to me most think Obama's plan was not aggressive enough.

I'm not sure what all those Obama haters think should have been done but to let the market take care of itself was NOT the answer, unless of course they wanted to see children and the elderly starving on the streets and no, I am not exaggerating. Several economists I have listened to clearly believe Obama's plan has at least saved us from entering a more devastating situation than the one that occurred during the last depression.

And, this situation was a long time in coming. It is not about what has happened in the last few weeks or few months, it has been brewing for a decade. I recall five years ago speaking to a economist who was already concerned and predicted a free fall within a few years. Lots of experts have been concerned about the state of the economy for years, (including my DH and he was a republican).

Again, it is going to take several years to pick up the pieces of Bush's legacy.

One other little point, in terms of tax rebates and spending freezes... my DH works for an international consulting firm and I know first hand (without any spin) of some of the research they are doing regarding world wide trends and trends in the United States. The experts who are paid to help companies succeed do not care about politics they care about a global economy and what is going to actually work. We are in a situation unlike any we have seen in recent history and giving people extra money to spend is NOT going to help, people are saving NOT spending. (This is no secret). The research is overwhelmingly clear on this. Tax rebates and spending freezes are not the answer, in spite of what Rush & Co. may think.

Now, I am not saying I like everything that is going on, nor do I agree with Obama 100% (And of course I am not thrilled with what is happening on Wall street), but I think he is on the right track for the immediate and long term needs of our country, at least according to most economic experts.

Again, as bad as it may be right now, to implement some of the plans right wing extremists suggest would be to cause a long, LONG term depression unlike anything our country has seen.

Virtually every expert I know or have read believes it will take at least a year to turn things around, four or five years to heal. Not bad considering it took ten years to get us to this point.

Also, I TOTALLY agree with A-man in terms of how Obama is working with the rest of the world. I feel certain his approach is welcomed in the global community. That is another area in which we were headed for serious problems.

Again, my opinions are not based on my expertise and original thought I am just sharing my opinion based on what I have read and heard from people I trust.

Do you think that the supposed stimulus package will help the economy? Is Bush responsible for BHO spending several trillion additional dollars. Does repealing welfare reform, signed by WJC in 1996 over far left protests but now generally acknowledged to have worked, improve economic incentives? Were you against the war in Afghanistan?

He just ticked off the Brits with his shabby treatment of PM Brown. The Iranians have treated his overtures with contempt. He's off to a bad start in foreign policy.

But for the analogy to be more accurate, you have to account for the fact that Obama doubled the bill in just the fraction of the time. The question is, is this economically smart? Where is the "change"? It seems like he is doing precisely what the right wingers had predicted, by epitomizing the tax and spend philosophy of the left. He's not even trying to hide it either, he just thinks that he doesn't have to be held accountable since "we won."

Yes, Bush spent a trillion to finance two wars over eight years, both of which were bi-partisan endeavors. This is in response to terrorism, and a dozen years of Iraqi belligerence towards UN demands. To think Bush did this for a trophy, or because he was somehow financially benefiting from it, is just extreme left idiocy.

Obama is doubling Bush's figure in just the first two months in office, in the most partisan manner possible, while at the same time blaming Bush for the state of the economy. That is down right irresponsible and even childish. When in did Bush sign over a trillon dollars in a bill he didn't even read? Do you reall think Obama and his partisan cohorts actually rea that 900 page bill before voting on it the next day?

Where is the change?

I thought this guy was going to bring back dignity to the WHite House. Only two months in office he has already pissed off Great Britain for treating them like crap during their vist to the WHite House. How am I supposed to believe he'll build relations with new countries when he just crap on our most important ally in history? Where is all his skills in diplomacy that we often heard about? Turns out Russis doesn't like him and neither will Venezuela unless he bows down completely to socialism. have a strange feeling that if this keeps up, in four years people will be wondering of Sarah Palin could really do any worse. I'm guessing it will be a Gingrich/Palin ticket.

Apparently so.

This just boggles the mind that people are still trying to blame Bush. It took Bush eight years to do what Obama has done in eight weeks. The difference is, Bush's spending might actually end up paying off depending on what kind of country Iraq turns out to be. Say in ten years Iraq ends up being the democratic heart of the Middle East, and begins influencing nations all around them. Suddenly Bush becomes a genius and one of the greatest Presidents in history.

This is what people don't seem to understand. Bush didn't spend a trillion on poorly designed economic policies. That is the difference here. Obama goes into this thing knowing exactly how much debt he plans to put us in, by spending this amount in economic spending packages. Bush went into Afghanistan and Iraq with the intention of getting in and out. Bush also inhereited something of a recession, and the economy had its up and downs during those eight years and wasn't really all that bad until Fanny Mae went under last year. And contrary to liberal myth, that was not Bush's fault.

Nobody thought the war would drag on as long as it did, but this was mainly due to poor military leadership. The surges should have happened much earlier with more frequency. But like Vietnam, we were walking on egg shells over there. Any war worth fighting should be fought with the goal to win.

Oh, and Obama promised to capture bin Ladin. If he does, I think that will be his only saving grace. Otherwise he's looking at being a first term President.
