"I can't believe HBO is doing this. I sent them an email telling them they are just a bunch of meanies for mocking our religion. And I can't wait for SATC2 !!!! Please hurry!!!!"
"People, we are in the last days. It has been forseen that the Church will be persecuted, and HBO is only acting to fulfill prophecy. And is there any greater form of persecution than to show people what our Temple clothing looks like? Did our pioneer ancestors have it nearly this bad? I don't think so. Truly the end times are near, and we are a chosen generation to endure this."
"Thank you for starting this group. I was frustrated when I saw what Big Love was doing, and I immediately sent an email to HBO and my satellite provider telling them how angry I was. But I felt like it wasn't enough. But now that we have a Facebook group, our 1300+ strong "Army of Helaman" can send a message to them: we will not be quiet! Sadly, I cancelled my subscription back in 1995 when I caught my 13-year-old son staying up late to watch "Taxi Cab Confessions", but I'm considering re-subscribing just so I can cancel it again."
"Boy, I thought I was upset when Bill married Anna, or when Sarah slept with the ex-mo guy. And I was livid when Albbie almost got control of the compound by putting his face in a hat and having a "revelation" (I mean, c'mon people!!! How stupid are you!!!?). And it was so inappropriate when they had all those shots of Bill's bare behind in episodes 1, 2, 4 and 7 of Season 1 (but none since then). But this is really too much. Bill just needs to get rid of Nikki, Barb needs to return to the Church, Marg needs to get a life, CPS needs to raid the compound, and then HBO can just end the show."

i would say a better way to solve it would be to go to higher church authorities, tell them about it, and see what they can do.

This truly is becoming hilarious.

Well Eric, when you get married, we can all watch everything that happens in your marriage. I mean why would it mean anything to me, its not like its a secret right? If we can't keep our temples ordinances sacred, then you don't deserve to let your marriage be that way. I wonder how you would react if HBO put your wedding night on broadcast. I thought it would be a sacred and private moment for you, but I guess that fictional writers are more than welcome to you.
Wait...just how many people were in the room for this lady's honeymoon? And when did "secret" become a synonym for "sacred"? The two words mean two different things people!
I wonder if LDS would have such a need to keep the Temple secret if they didn't find it so embarrassing. As I've said before, you don't hear hardly anyone complain about pictures of the sacrament or baptism being published, but those are also sacred ordinances.

These people are actually calling HBO.

"I called HBO today and spoke to a lovely man named Bill Macy who is a supervisor in the consumer affairs division and he did confirm that they are showing things on big love that have to do with our Temple ceremony. After a long conversation with him I voiced my sadness that they would show something on HBO that is sacred to the LDS Church, or about any other church as far as that goes. You can call them yourself and flood their offices with voices of people who are saddened that they would air this.
212-512-1000 ask for Consumer affairs Bill Macy was the supervisor. Very nice man, I think it's important that we are kind and respectful when we talk to others about respecting us. But I also think it's nice that people can know how we feel and maybe through that, their heart be touched to make a change in our ever darkening world. Where it's dog eat dog world. Change has to begin with us."

I spoke too soon. This is my favorite comment:

What the heck!? This can't be allowed because of the religious discrimination that is in it! If they want to make their own private production like The God Makers, then hey! They've got every right to do so, but this is just too much!
If anybody REALLY wants to know about what goes on in the temple, why don't they just join the church and see for themselves?

So, despite the fact that the show is not about Mormon polygamy (as Mormons don't practice it), that the Church has nothing to do with the groups that are practicing it, except in the most tenuous historical sense (and vice versa), and that Tom Hanks is a textbook Hollywood celebutard with enough air in his head to keep an entire fleet of Seaworld Shamu blimps in flight until next year's Oscars, and who probably secretly admires the polygamists (as do probably many of his liberal Hollywood friends) for there transgressive, avant garde sexual deviancy, whats all the hubbub bub?

Mark wrote:I think that if something like that DID happen, it would be completely unlawful. Excommunicated members that went through the temple already have signed a verbal contract, as well as any other member of the church, to never reveal anything that happens within the temple. A breach of such a thing would only be bad for HBO... wouldn't it?
Is this guy possibly talking about the death oath?

I'm trying to figure out, Goodk, whether the illimitable abyss I'm staring into is that within your mind or heart, or is a amalgamation of the two.
The world of ex-Mormonism is truly a swirling, boiling maelstrom from which escape may be a profound struggle in its own right.

One of the characters in the show (Barb, the first wife) was LDS, and her sister and extended family are still TBM. Barb's son has visited with an LDS Bishop, and the polygamist family has TBM neighbors.
The Temple content seems to be related to Barb's polygamist lifestyle being revealed to the local LDS, resulting in her excommunication? Apparently, this leads to her going through the Temple again. Not sure how it will fit in, but that's what the "LDS" have to do with the show.
Tom Hanks has actually shown a great deal of humility and self-awareness of his mental limitations as a celebrity and the low value of his non-entertainment related opinions, so I'm not sure where your diatribe comes from.
