Actually, I hope Loran's life is better than he deserves. I hope the same for us all.
(Nevo, Jan 23) And the Melchizedek Priesthood may not have been restored until the summer of 1830, several months after the organization of the Church.
John Larsen wrote:Droopy is truly the Stephen Colbert of apologists. His over the top parody of apologists is too funny. Sometimes, he even had me going, but then something so outlandish would show up--like a little wink of the eye to those of us in the know. Bravo! It was an amazing show. You sir, did the most brilliant send up of apologists to date. I will miss the charade, but I understand that it has to end.
If only I could believe that it had all been a charade.
What's the use of threatening to leave the board (or come back)? I check both boards (and others as well) and if something interests me, I join in, make a hit and run, or do what ever suits my fancy. Do people ever get their feelings hurt or change their minds when someone else threatens to leave?
Am I the only one here that notices that some apologists use a thesaurus as a tool of confusion, rather than one of communication?
I have to wonder if Droopy ever actually used this word when speaking?
Well, sometimes it's appropriate to use a word in writing that one might not when ordinarily speaking.
Droopy consistently misuses intellectual-sounding words. It makes him come off as a dullard trying to sound smart. It's kinda embarrassing, but fortunately for him, he's sufficiently dense that it probably won't wear on him.
His use of lugubrious is actually perfect, as it means an exaggerated or affected mourning. This works because everything Droopy ever posted here came across as affected and exaggerated. Part of it was, as you said, his word choice, which made him sound desperate to fit in with the smarter folks. But the other part is his earnest belief in his narrow view of the world, giving no ground and never granting than anyone else had a valid point of view.
In short, he showed with every post what he is: a self-educated man with a very narrow point of view.
"Droopy" would have been brilliant had he been an ex-Mo posting. Absolutely brilliant.
However.
He's real. That one. And THAT is a TBM if I ever saw one. Impervious to reason. Insecure to an OOM. And hateful to those who dare rain on his parade. He's as real as they come.
