I'll play like Einstein.

I am not an atheist. God is the laws of nature. Religion sucks, there is no revelation from God, the Bible is childish (good choice of words Einstien!), prayer does not do a thing.
God is nothing like what anyone, priest, politician or prophet, thinks he is (oops I mean it).

It is as personal as an equation and loves us as much as a rock.

He isn't even a he or an it. My God is the God of Spinoza. God is E=mc2

Einstein said "From the viewpoint of a Jesuit priest I am, of course, and have always been an atheist."

I'll play that too (that semantic BS that merely fears the word "atheist" for PR's sake).

So, although I am not an atheist, I am an atheist from the viewpoint of every religious person I have ever met. Indeed, I am atheist even from the vantage of those Jesuits and that's sayin' something.

Now Sam Harris also said that he thought he didn't want to be called an atheist (to many negative associations as I am sure Einstein was aware).

So there ya go. Me, Harris, Einstein-- none of us are atheists.

Of course, good luck finding a quote that says Einstein is a theist.
when believers want to give their claims more weight, they dress these claims up in scientific terms. When believers want to belittle atheism or secular humanism, they call it a "religion". -Beastie

I'm quite sure this is also Dawkins' view.

With all due respect, T, I think you misunderstand. If you've noticed from dart's posting history, dart accuses atheists of wanting, needing... pleading for people to understand that Einstein was "on our side." What's particularly amusing about this rhetoric is that dart is the one who's been doing the pleading all this time that Einstein is actually on his side. If anyone wants to be on Einstein's team, it's dart.

I don't believe in any gods, and it doesn't make any difference to me in the least what Einstein thought about it. I suspect he was an atheist in his heart, but I don't really care.

I bet if you did a search here of the phrase "Einstein and I" you would come up with at least 20 hits where dart talked like he and Einstein were old buddies from a way back, had talked about this stuff with him at length over the years, and they were in perfect agreement.

It's sad, pathetic, and hilarious all at the same time.
God belief is for people who don't want to live life on the universe's terms.

Reminds me of a show I saw on TV once. I forget the exact details (something about a gate being opened for Satan to come through), but the words appeared on the computer screen...

I call myself a Christian pluralist, but I have little doubt that most religious people would label me an agnostic at best.

I will have to disagree with that.

I thought this thread would be a link to an Osmonds' pop music video.

I have no idea how our fellow presenters at the SMPT are going to get around not being "agnostic" to some degree and maintain a thorough-going pro religious pluralist stance. It's a little bit ridiculous. I'm thinking about bringing a "dishonesty meter" with me to the conference. Well, it would be made out of construction paper, have a 2-d red beaker, and then as the BS level of the presenter rises, I can slide a red piece of paper up the 2-d representation of the "tube" portion of the beaker.

I've noticed that, when speaking of high-profile Teutons, everyone wants to claim Albert for their side, but no one wants Adolf.
