Owned Again?

Post by _Gadianton »

Today I had a conversation with a relative via the telephone. The conversation was one of those general catch-up conversations, but about mid way, the voice of this relative all of a sudden lit up with excitement. The relative proceeded to tell me about a new scientific theory that I might be very interested in. This relative became so excited about it, that I had a hard time getting out of him the nature of this important new theory scientists and scholars have come up with. It turned out, the theory had to do with the origin of the Americas and the people of the Book of Mormon, but I couldn't get any kind of an answer on the broad outline not to mention the details. I asked who came up with the theory, the reply was that scholars had. I asked who it is promoting it, and how? I finally learned that it's relatively new material, and there is a DVD out.

At that point, knowing nothing else, I made a deal with myself. See, this relative is a Chapel Mormon if there ever was one. All of my relatives to my knowledge, in fact, are Chapel Mormons. So while this relative desperately searched for the DVD, even more excited now that I'd expressed interest, I made this deal. I said silently, if he comes back and it's the new Journey of Faith DVD, I will come on the board and admit that FARMS may be close to piercing the core of Chapel Mormonism and injecting its Mopologetic venom into the main artery of Mormondom. However, if it's the other DVD, then I will post in triumph, and declare desperation within the apologetic ranks, the Mopologetic coup crumbling.

The relative returned to the phone and exclaimed with urgency, "Rodney Meldrum!"

I hearby seal up this post in triumph.
Lou Midgley 08/20/2020: "...meat wad," and "cockroach" are pithy descriptions of human beings used by gemli? They were not fashioned by Professor Peterson.

LM 11/23/2018: one can explain away the soul of human beings...as...a Meat Unit, to use Professor Peterson's clever derogatory description of gemli's ideology.

Either the End is near... or we'll all be here 10 years hence, still arguing about the same things as we do today.

My father sent me Journey of Faith last year, so score a point for FARMS.

I should get credit, though, because he only went to FARMS in the first place because he couldn't find Chapel answers to my piercing questions.

I got a Meldrum from a TBM buddy several months ago too. He was jazzed. Seee? The church is soooo true, man.

I mentioned that Meldrum (and eventually his ideas) had been majorly diss'ed by the roundpeg/squarehole gang at Farms. He had no conceiveable idea the church actually had a lead cave from which the word of God emanated in this dispensation. He's been prostyliting me for quite a while too.

Since apologists deny that there is a chapel/internet dichotomy and don't see a clandestine campaign to corrupt the LDS by key apologists you wagered absolutely nothing in this instance. Congrats.

Welcome to the board Vin!

You made me laugh. Thanx.
I think it would be morally right to lie about your religion to edit the article favorably.

That rule wasn't established by revelation at the time.

That's pretty funny. But doesn't the "Journey of Faith" DVD just deal with the Middle Eastern-aspects of the Book of Mormon, thus making it compatible with any theory of New World Book of Mormon geography?

I think, overall, very very few Mormons of any variety, Chapel, Internet, Iron Rod, Liahona, etc., know FARMS/MI exists. Only the few who actually read and understand scripture, especially the Book of Mormon, and are troubled by the holes in the fabric turn to FARMS types. Most people think apologists are people who apologize for things they've done wrong. (And we all know where the real apologists fall on that Likert Scale--Never!).
