I never used a book. We just talked to our kids naturally about it as they had questions, even when little. Of course we kept is it simple and basic and age appropriate. We also taught them our own values and beliefs about sex at the same time. So I never recall sitting any one of them down for a specific talk and saying ok here we go about the birds and the bees. We had many talks over many years.

Bart: "Look at that hunk of junk."

Grampa: "Oh, jeeh, you're ignorant! That's the Wright Brothers' plane. At Kitty Hawk in 1903, Charles Lindbergh flew it fifteen miles on a thimbleful of corn oil. Single handedly won us the Civil War, it did."

Bart: "So how do you know so much about American history?"

Grampa: "I pieced it together, mostly from sugar packets."

Learning about sex from your peers is like learning your history from sugar packets.

Wow!

I thought I might get a few good resposes from this board on this topic, but Im overwhelmed with the quality of most of whats been said. Very little smart alec resposes. Thank you all.

I had my wife read the thread, and she thought alot of the advise should be used. And she greatly appreciated the explanation as to why the school woudl show such a film to children.

My personal approach that I intend to use is his understanding of what is expected of him as a young man who is going to be bearing the priesthood this fall. He is expected to not be like some of the other boys he knows. He is to be respectful towards women and watch his language and manners. From that I want to ask him questions about why we need to act this way.

From that foundation I want to talk about how life and how its created and personal responsibility.

I think after that I should just go loose in the conversation and just talk candidly and let him ask questions and let him guide the conversation from that point. Ask him what he has heard from friends.

We'll see how it goes. As the saying goes "The best laid plans...."

much thanks to all
