In the ideal world, that would be wonderful. In the ideal world, people wouldn't abuse children and we wouldn't need law enforcement to help protect them. I think rules, law enforcement, and moderators all exist for a reason--because people don't take it upon themselves to act decently.
While I personally strive to remain legal and maintain a certain standard of decency, I find that threats of lawsuits ruins my board experience. I believe it's against what this board stands for. Hence I think those who, even for good reason, exercise their right to sue another board particpant should be dismissed. Unfortunately I think that will be much more effective than self-policing which hasn't been very effective so far.
This isn't just about an isolated case. I feel like the threat of lawsuits on this board is a growing problem, and I think we need to take solid action to address it.

I agree that the nastiness, legal threats, taunting, and cruelty get out of control and definitely detracts from the board, no question about this.
I'm not sure how it should best be handled... I think nearly everyone on this board, if they took a step back could calm down, reevaluate their behavior, and move forward with more consideration and decency.
