Could someone please explain the mechanism of faith healing? How does a priesthood blessing with oil actually heal someone? What does it do, specifically?

It doesn't actually heal someone, per se, any more than a placebo does.

What it does specifically is something akin to what an amusement park ride does for it's riders, which is to simulate some fantasy world event so you can experience it without it actually being real. It's very costly, and in the end, isn't really worth it, unless you're one of those people who thinks you can't put a price tag on memories. At least with amusement parks, you come home after some exercise, perhaps a tan, and a few souvenirs.
