Hallelujah-My favorite version is by Rufus Wainwright. I believe it was used in the movie Shrek.
I've heard there was a secret chord That David played, and it pleased the Lord But you don't really care for music, do you? It goes like this The fourth, the fifth The minor fall, the major lift The baffled king composing Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Your faith was strong but you needed proof You saw her bathing on the roof Her beauty in the moonlight overthrew you She tied you To a kitchen chair She broke your throne, she cut your hair And from your lips she drew the Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Maybe I've been here before I know this room, I've walked this floor I used to live alone before I knew you I've seen your flag on the marble arch love is not a victory march It's a cold and it's a broken hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah Hallelujah, Hallelujah
There was a time you'd let me know What's real and going on below But now you never show it to me do you? Remember when I moved in you? The holy dark was moving too And every breath we drew was hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Maybe there's a God above And all I ever learned from love Was how to shoot at someone who outdrew you It's not a cry you can hear at night It's not somebody who's seen the light It's a cold and it's a broken hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah

Doofus Ain't-right? “F” that crap. Jeff Buckley's version is much, much better.
I will nominate a modern song that I still LOVE. The original video has over 24 million views on youtube.
Apologize by One Republic featuring Timbaland is my favorite version.
I'm holding on your rope, Got me ten feet off the ground I'm hearin what you say but I just can't make a sound You tell me that you need me Then you go and cut me down, but wait You tell me that you're sorry Didn't think I'd turn around, and say that...
It's too late to apologize, it's too late I said it's too late to apologize, it's too late
I'd take another chance, take a fall Take a shot for you And I need you like a heart needs a beat But it's nothing new I loved you with a fire red- Now it's turning blue, and you say... "Sorry" like the angel heaven let me think was you But I'm afraid...
It's too late to apologize, it's too late I said it's too late to apologize, it's too late
It's too late to apologize, it's too late I said it's too late to apologize, it's too late It's too late to apologize, yeah I said it's too late to apologize, yeah- I'm holdin on your rope, got me ten feet off the ground...

I didn't know if we could nominate musicals. I would have put this one as my favorite too. I used to play this song over and over when I was around age 12.
Some of the songs from Phantom of the Opera would also go on my list. All I ask of you is amazing. Gerard Butler can stalk me anytime.

That's a great song. I think my favorite Elton John song is "The Last Song." The lyrics are very touching. It's a song about a homosexual son that is dying and his father making amends with him.
Yesterday you came to lift me up As light as straw and brittle as a bird Today I weigh less than a shadow on the wall Just one more whisper of a voice unheard Tomorrow leave the windows open As fear grows please hold me in your arms Won't you help me if you can to shake this anger I need your gentle hands to keep me calm `Cause I never thought I'd lose I only thought I'd win I never dreamed I'd feel This fire beneath my skin I can't believe you love me I never thought you'd come I guess I misjudged love Between a father and his son Things we never said come together The hidden truth no longer haunting me Tonight we touched on the things that were never spoken That kind of understanding sets me free `Cause I never thought I'd lose I only thought I'd win I never dreamed I'd feel This fire beneath my skin I can't believe you love me I never thought you'd come I guess I misjudged love Between a father and his son

I close my eyes Only for a moment, then the moment's gone All my dreams Pass before my eyes, a curiosity Dust in the wind All they are is dust in the wind
Same old song Just a drop of water in an endless sea All we do Crumbles to the ground, though we refuse to see Dust in the wind All we are is dust in the wind, ohh
Now, don't hang on Nothing lasts forever but the earth and sky It slips away And all your money won't another minute buy Dust in the wind All we are is dust in the wind All we are is dust in the wind
Dust in the wind Everything is dust in the wind Everything is dust in the wind The wind

It's "hunting the horny-back toad".
I should just lie and say that was a typo but the fact is that all these years I really did think it was "horny black toad". Man I feel stupid. At any rate I still think he could have come up with something better to rhyme with road.

Goodness. There's no reason to feel stupid. In case you've never seen a horny (horned) toad, I found a picture of one for you:
They're few and far between, though they used to be more common. I haven't seen one in years and years.
