Bob wrote:Interesting. A clear breach of confidence here, even though you don't mention the names of the confessors. I wonder what they would have thought then had they known years later you'd be posting on a public bulletin board the most embarrassing possible things told to you.

They could be reading this board now and be affected by your indiscretion.

Bob, you are so full of crap, it's pathetic. Jason's example was VERY general. He told us, in general terms, of advice he gave to parisheners regarding masturbation. He mentioned NO specific names or specific incidents. He is also posting, to quote YOU, as "an anonymous coward", so no one can be completely sure which Ward he is specifically referring to.

You are just upset because what he posted was actually sensible advice. I wouldn't be surprised if you were simply jealous because his counsel made more sense than counsel you have given as a bishop.

It's a shame Jason decided to delete his comments. I respect his being overly cautious, though. You could learn a few things from him.

Bob wrote:I guess you and the others on this board agree that it is OK for Jason, a former bishop, to blab about confessions he received on a public board? Amazing.

Again, Jason did NOT blab specifics about a confessional. He spoke in very general terms. Are you really so needy to win an argument that you would stoop this low? Never mind...you're an attorney. I just answered my own question.

Yes, there are two choices out there. Pursue every sexual urge, however ephemeral and no matter the consequences for oneself or others, or don't masturbate.

If only there was some other alternative. Alas!

The angle I take with the "self-mastery" line is how arbitrary masturbation is to pick as the thing to abstain from when compared against the countless things we find pleasurable or useful. The first half-serious thought I had when I read it was that BCS should consider joining an order of Carthusian Monks.

Allow me to be a bit of a spoilsport here, but I was never asked about masturbation as a youth, either.

I have been asked about masturbation by LDS ecclesiastical authority precisely twice; both times occurred during the latter quarter of my mission during mission president interviews. I was 22 by that time.

(Of course, I wouldn't dream of insinuating that my experience constitutes the norm and that anyone whose experience differs from mine must be a liar. Nothing could be further from the truth.)
"Finally, for your rather strange idea that miracles are somehow linked to the amount of gay sexual gratification that is taking place would require that primitive Christianity was launched by gay sex, would it not?"

It doesn't matter. And Jason knows it. Otherwise he wouldn't have recanted.

So you are accusing Jason of breaching confidences, when he uses a pseudonym, we don't know his real name, nor even where he lives?

I don't think this is fair. I know several attorneys who would never stoop this low. Of course, none of them are LDS.
(Nevo, Jan 23) And the Melchizedek Priesthood may not have been restored until the summer of 1830, several months after the organization of the Church.

Jason recanted because he is overly cautious. He is a genuinely sweet guy, and has true respect for the office he held.

I would MUCH rather have HIM counseling my kids in the capacity of bishop than YOU any day of the week.

YOU are simply a first class jerk.

You're right. There are attorneys who are actually good people.

Too bad Bob isn't one of them.
