Does it help you to work out ideas and views on Mormonism? Does it help you to have the freedom you might have not had while a member, to openly criticize the church? Does it help you work out your apologetic positions because you have a chance to bring them directly to ex-LDS and others? Does it help you to work out articulating your criticisms?
Or are ya just hanging out?
This is a really good question, Jersey Girl.
I actually found Shades' board in a roundabout way a couple of years ago. I was a Moderator on FAIR, and had heard a lot of scandal regarding Shades' board. I wondered what all of the fuss was about, so I decided to check it out. Frankly, I found the place charming. There were several folks, such as Scratch, Harmony, Some Schmo, Kevin, and Jersey Girl, who I always enjoyed reading, who had been banned from FAIR. I was delighted to find them on Shades' board.
Kevin defined Shades' board in an interesting way. He said that FAIR/MAD was like working in a corporation. Shades' board was like the unfiltered lunch room. It was much more relaxed. You could say what was really on your mind.
What's currently "in it for me" on Shades' board are the people. I have made a lot of friends here over the past couple of years.
Discussing aspects of Mormonism is interesting, and I have learned things here from those discussions as well. However, the main dynamic that, as Bob's alter ego, Justin, calls it, "keeps me a board addict", is my relationship with the people here.
I really do view us as a sort of cool, dysfunctional Internet family.

I have grown particularly close to Harmony, Jersey Girl, Runtu, Bond, Jason, Shades, Blixa, Scottie, Gaz, Will, Kevin, Who Knows, Brackite, Beastie,TD, Seven, Ray, Sammy, Moksha, BC, Angus, Mercury, Scratch, Schmo, GoodK,Marg, Abman....yikes...I know I'm forgetting people.

See, I love y'all.

In retrospect, not too much.
I had more expectation.

What would you like to see, that you aren't seeing now?
(Nevo, Jan 23) And the Melchizedek Priesthood may not have been restored until the summer of 1830, several months after the organization of the Church.
