I doubt that there will be any organized attack by FARMS. The conclusions presented (although they might deal with rather embarrassing issues) have no bearing upon the truth or falsity of the Church itself. Sure, many Mormons (including my Great, Great, Great Grandfather whom I quote in my thesis) have struggled with anti-Catholicism. So have many Protestants. So have many Catholics expressed anti-Protestant and anti-Mormon polemics. I didn’t point these things out to embarrass the Church. I brought these things up to simply explain the motivating factors behind the development of the LDS opposition to the cross.
I have been watching the comments on MAD and I don’t think they know how to approach it. I am none the less sure the Mo’s don’t like it.
A few apologists who have read it--including one prominent member of FAIR--have said that they liked/enjoyed it. I suspect that more conservative apologists, though, will probably react differently. Some may conclude that my arguments aren't persuasive enough. Fortunately, I have maintained good relationships with several members of FAIR since I left their organization… so they will be less likely to assign evil motives to me.
In some ways I see this evolution much like the position once held on blacks.. in the end nobody really knew why blacks were banned - just that is the way it evolved.
Right. And it is probably safe to say that several LDS apologists agree with you and me about this.
