But if polygamy were reinstated the reasons for it would be clear and many would understand and stay in the church. You guys really need to use your imagination on this one and understand if God wants to reinstate polygamy his reasons would be clear.
Why would God have clear reasons at this point, that has never been a factor in the past. God usually just acts in the self interest of the leaders of His church.
if God wants to reinstate polygamy his reasons would be clear.
If the reason Joseph instigated and practiced polygamy was to raise up a righteous posterity -- didn't he ultimately fail in this purpose?
Didn't Joseph have more children with Emma, his only legal and lawful wife, than he had with his other wives? Where is all this supposed "posterity" he had to raise up? One or two suspected offspring from other wives?
And why would an all-knowing God have Joseph marry so many women and girls in 1843 and 1844, if He knew Joseph was going to get killed soon anyway, leaving them all widows.
There is no reason for polygamy that makes sense, other than to commit God-sanctioned adultery.

I believe that there were two reason for it: one, to raise up a righteous seed and this is what happened. Two, to test the faithfulness of the saints. Some passed and some failed.
I can't say that god knew that Joseph Smith would be killed when he was killed. Nothing is predetermined since we all have free agency.
I intend to lay a foundation that will revolutionize the whole world. Joseph Smith We are “to feed the hungry, to clothe the naked, to provide for the widow, to dry up the tear of the orphan, to comfort the afflicted, whether in this church, or in any other, or in no church at all…” Joseph Smith

Really?
Are you kidding?
When has anything in the LDS church been "clear"?
Is it clear why Joseph Smith had his affair with sixteen year old Fanny? (OK, maybe this IS clear).
Is it clear why God chose to "break the hearts of his daughters" by demanding that Joseph Smith have sex with who knows how many girls and women?
Is it clear why God commanded Joseph Smith to send men away on missions so Joseph Smith could take their wives?
Is it clear why God cares with whom Joseph Smith is having sex?
Is it clear why God demands extra marital sexual encounters from various men in the LDS church?

You look at it from the position that Joe was a horny toad and because he was a horny toad he decided to marry all those women from 1841 to 1843 because he was a horny guy. You also have him having sex every night since it would be everynight if he were doing them all as emma waited patiently at home. And then of course, he had to be up and running a church and fighting off mobs.
I do believe that if the gentlemen on this forum would chirp in they would tell you that it take more than viagra to keep it all going smoothly.

Personally I think it was more about power than anything else.

also,
didn't' you get the memo? It's just simply called agency now. There is nothing free about it when you cannot be selective about the consequence.

Nope, you completely misunderstand what I think went on.
I do not think Joseph Smith cared to establish a true relationship with all these girls and women. Of course he didn't. I do think he most likely used them for sexual purposes when he could get away with it. I think he wanted some sex on the side and used God as an excuse.
He was no different than other men who use similar tactics to excuse sexual infidelity.
And to say God demanded Joseph Smith (and other LDS leaders) have sex with various girls and women as a test, knowing God states in the Book of Mormon that polygamy "breaks the hearts of his daughters" makes God a pretty sick dude.
