It's funny how old trite things to say in times like this pop to mind, like, "May god be with you" or "He's going to a better place..." I can't say anything like that because it would be insincere/lack integrity coming from me, but I'd really like to say something comforting (since I really like you). Unfortunately, as a result, the best I can come up with is, "May the Force be with you" since "the Force" can be whatever we each want to to be (and because I know your a fan).

I hope you can ride this out in the best way possible, however that would be for you. I feel for your loss.
God belief is for people who don't want to live life on the universe's terms.

I know that this really doesn't have to do with Mormonism directly, but the subject of life after death does.
Times like this always make me wonder what really does await us on the other side of the veil.
I should also note that my friend is Catholic. He is very familiar with the LDS Church, though...has many friends who are LDS.
Anyhow...maybe there is something to my being overly sensitive in some of my posts at the moment. I'm really not myself.

Liz,
Keep your compassion, sympathy in perspective.
There's a very good possibility that your friend will pass into nothingness once his brain is deprived of oxygen.
The same fate awaits us all. It is really not bad at all.
It is what it is.

Thanks, guys. Your kind words and prayers mean a lot. I have also received some very kind wishes via PM as well. *HUGS* to you all. I appreciate it more than you know.

I did get some word from my friend's daughter today. Apparently, he is awake a bit more, and has his appetite back. Unfortunately, he is still confused much of the time, and doesn't always know who his family is, which is very frustrating. My friend, Ross, is a retired Oxford Associate Professor of English, and a truly brilliant man. It just makes me angry to see how callously this brain cancer is robbing him of his mind.

I'm late to this thread, liz, but you have my warm wishes as well.

I'm sorry to hear this, liz. It is so difficult to lose loved ones. I lost a dear friend to cancer several years ago, after her long and exhausting battle with it, and while you get used to not having that person anymore, I don't think you ever really "get over it". I dream about her now and then, and in my dreams, she's young and healthy again. I'm surprised to see her in the dreams, and often reach out to touch her cheek. I think I will miss her the rest of my life.

I'm so sorry to hear of your friend Liz.
Just wanted you to know I am thinking about you and sending my best wishes.

I have a family member who was shocked with the news of stage 4 cancer that has spread all over the body. This person lived a very healthy lifestyle and they are unsure of the cause. The Docs are doing extreme chemo treatments and we are hoping for the best but it doesn't look very good.
