Whats going on?

Post by _Gazelam »

Spending money like water?

Paint our roofs white?

Run gas prices up during a recession to change our car buying habits?

Put a 31 year old guy in charge of a major car company? A guy that barely graduated?

Nominate an unqualified woman to the Supreme Court merely because shes a hispanic woman and she'll "round things out" on the panel?

What the hells going on?

I had high hopes when I started seeing patriotism amongst americans. I was even getting excited, but now its starting to seem like someones just pointed this ship towards the sun and is giggling maniacly into his sleeve.

I thought Bush was bad, but this all just seems like we're making it up as we go along.

I can only determine that these are more signs that the end is nigh.

The exploding debt is the most alarming thing to me.

Thus far, at least.

Check out this post by Norm Eisen, Special Counsel to the President on Ethics and Government Reform, found on the White House blog:

"First, we will expand the restriction on oral communications to cover all persons, not just federally registered lobbyists. For the first time, we will reach contacts not only by registered lobbyists but also by unregistered ones, as well as anyone else exerting influence on the process. We concluded this was necessary under the unique circumstances of the stimulus program."

Hi Gaz,

Spending money like water?

Takes a lot of $ to fix all the mistakes.

Paint our roofs white?

Not allowed in my community.
Run gas prices up during a recession to change our car buying habits?

Let's see, who was the President last year?

Put a 31 year old guy in charge of a major car company? A guy that barely graduated?

Who are you talking about? Fritz is running GM.

Nominate an unqualified woman to the Supreme Court merely because shes a hispanic woman and she'll "round things out" on the panel?

Say what you want about her opinions, "unqualified" does not fit.

What the hells going on?

Life. :ugeek:

Trust me, no one is giggling. We are in a serious mess and it will take some serious work to get us back on course. It is not going to happen in three months, or even three years.

I thought Bush was bad, but this all just seems like we're making it up as we go along.

Bush WAS bad. And, we are making it up as we go along. The world is not as it was ten, twenty, or fifty years ago. This is new uncharted territory, so the best we can do is learn from the past and apply those lessons to a new, much more complicated and interconnected world.

Stop doing it.

Paint our roofs white?

I recommend against it. It'd be a waste of paint.

Run gas prices up during a recession to change our car buying habits?

Gas prices are way down since the final days of George W. Bush.

Put a 31 year old guy in charge of a major car company? A guy that barely graduated?

Who the Hell are you talking about?

Nominate an unqualified woman to the Supreme Court merely because shes a hispanic woman and she'll "round things out" on the panel?

What gives you the impression that she's unqualified?

What the hells going on?

"Hell" is a proper noun and needs to be spelled with a capital "H." "Hell's" is a contraction of "Hell is" and needs to have an apostrophe before the "s." "Hells" would be a plural noun and is therefore incorrect.

Why are we painting our roofs white?

Also, I just got some kinda information that the 31 year old guy ("Yale flunkie" was the specific term used) is someone in charge of dismantling GM.

Tell us more about this, Gaz. The roof and the 31 year old.

That's all I need to know.

I don't care about the Supreme Court.
I think the gas prices are OK.

And I don't spend money like water, but that could change in EIGHT WEEKS!

"Unqualified"? Just what are the qualifications for a Supreme Court nominee?

And in what way is Santomayer unqualified that previous nominated justices have been qualified?

Oh, no! B. Hussein Obama is trying to save us money on our utility bills! Commence the impeachment proceedings!

Run gas prices up during a recession to change our car buying habits?
You should take an economics class before discussing this topic. It's painfully obvious that you haven't learned anything about externalities or Pigou.

Put a 31 year old guy in charge of a major car company? A guy that barely graduated?
He only recently graduated because he put in a lot of work experience between undergrad and law school. It's not as if he's been cloistered away in academia his whole life, or took 13 years to graduate.

Moreoever, the hire was apparently at Larry Summers' behest. I doubt, though, that you have the requisite knowledge base in economics to realize that Summers is one of the most highly regarded centrist economists in the world.

Nominate an unqualified woman to the Supreme Court merely because shes a hispanic woman and she'll "round things out" on the panel?
Yes, Obama nominated Sotomayor merely because she's Hispanic. I'm sure her former editorship of the Yale Law Review and 17 years of high-profile bench experience didn't factor in at all.

Please.

The idea is to reduce the amount of energy we use to keep our homes cool in the summer. White reflects more of the sun's radiation back into the atmosphere; in fact, that's why white objects appear that color. Obama's idea is about as objectionable as encouraging people to install insulation in their attics.

White roofs: President Obamas appointee US Energy Secretary Steven Chu stated very seriously that he believes we should all paint our roofs white, along with our streets and parking lots in order to stave off global warming. Uhm.... this guy is clearly insane. You couldent make up something this bizarre if you were straining to write a comedic film. I live in the desert, and Im aware of what the color white does in regards to keeping you cool, but c'mon.

Spending money: In the horrific Bush years we saw the National debt go up to $10 Trillion dollars. In the span of four days, we saw the signing of the $787 billion stimulus bill, the rollout of a $275 billion housing proposal, discussion of Congress’s remaining appropriations bills (about $400 billion) and word of a vaguely-defined financial stabilization plan that could ultimately cost $2 trillion. All of this with foreign money. Its terrifying.

Gas Prices: Listening to NPR radio I have heard both oil company executives and enviormental lobbyists state very plainly that they want to manipulate gas prices to purposefully change the cars people own. The oil companys want this so that their oil, which has been drying up, will last longer, and the enviormental nutcases want us to use less so that we will stop releasing all our evil carbon monoxide. These are the people that have the power right now. Very soon expect all of the Bush gas prices to seem like a golden age. At that time it was the growing Chinese economy raising prices, now its your government wanting you to buy a small economic car that's raising your prices.

31 year old : A 31 year old law student at Yale who does not yet have his degree. Who has never been associated in any way with the auto industry and who has never had a job until this appointment by the Obama Administration. This guy is in charge of dismantling and restructuring GM. The government with its top guys couldent run a comapny in a profit on its best day, and they want to put an unproven young frsh out of college guy in charge. It makes no sense.

Santomayer: As a member of the Supreme Court, a person should be interpreting the constitution and making legal arguements on important issues. Arguements that will affect future court decisions and rulings. This job description calls for a keen mind and visionary viewpoint on the interpretation and long range scope of Law and constitution. A man like Antonin Scalia is someone whose writings on law are praised by both conservative and liberal minded people. Santomayer isn't even capable of making a clear point in an interview, stating that a hispanic woman is more wise than a white male. We all knew what she meant to say, but is this really the person you want to have writing rulings for future generations to read in an effort to interpret law?
