Seven,
Your points are all good and clearly demonstrate that the attack on same-sex unions is trivial in comparison with your examples.
However, yet another question is not addressed in what appears an assumption in
your comments.
seven stated:
If God cares so much about having this ideal traditional family with a man providing and presiding and the woman home nurturing, then why does he leave millions of children to be orphaned from the tsunami, disease, earthquakes, mothers who die in childbirth, etc. ????? Surely God could intervene in preventing these situations without affecting anyone’s agency. why me makes assumptions about “…family…” in this:
“The traditional family is under attack once more but it has been now for a couple of decades by other forces. And we can see the chaos around us.”
Your comment, seven, implies or assumes
God.
You appear to continue that assumption in the following:
seven stated:
Seems God is the one attacking the traditional family more than anyone. Your evidence and argument clearly demonstrate that great suffering dominates fully half of the human population. In history centuries ago, great suffering dominated an even larger percentage of the human population. Then, even the most educated, the most informed were ignorant about sanitation, germs, disease, and about how disease could be treated or prevented.
However,
God arguments do not establish
God. In addition, the wide variety of claims, doctrines, and dogmas are contradictory within a single religion
Christianity. Christians don’t agree on
God notions. Further, individual denominations are self-contradictory in their own claims.
Hi Jak, :)
I agree with you. There are contradictions at every turn in religion and I was pointing out a contradiction in the logic of a believer.
I personally do not believe in a God that intervenes or is attacking the traditional family by natural occurences so my argument is for the Christians/Mormons/believers that attribute tsunamis, hurricanes, earthquakes, disease, etc. as God's work. I would be very surprised if WhyMe does not believe in an intervening God who punishes or blesses His children here on earth based on wickedness. I do not believe in this God. I specifically used examples where God
could intervene without affecting a persons agency because Mormons typically argue that God does not intervene if it stops free agency. They believe He will answer prayers if it is His will and save them from harm, illness, (or lost keys) etc.
I believe this is how the great majority of Christians and people who oppose same sex marriage view God, so on
this notion of God I think there would be much agreement.
Right after the tsunami I was embarrassed to call myself a Christian from the all the believers claiming it was a sign of the times.
Most anti gay marriage arguments from believers usually come down to the studies and religious doctrine that say it's best for a child's nurturing to have a mother and father figure in the home. They believe that it's harmful for children to be raised by a gay couple, that homosexual marriage will lead to the breakdown of the family...which will be the fall of our society as prophesied by religious leaders.
Mormons see the Proclomation on the Family as scripture.
Their God must not agree or there would not be 143 million orphans from His will.
