Actually, I'm a little confused with your comment about stating that you "participate to some extent in both".

I know you are a pretty active member of the Masonic Lodge, but I thought that you were completely inactive as far as the Church was concerned, basically, for all intents and purposes, referring to yourself as a former member. Isn't the only reason you haven't resigned for family reasons?

Mercury: are there black Masons in your lodge (you might have to keep it secret). I wonder if black males didn't really push the issue because of Prince Hall lodges.

I think one difference between LDS church allowing black males to hold the priesthood and the Lodges is each Lodge is sort of independent. They need to abide by certain rules so they are not a renegade lodge but most of the time they set their own rules who they allow in. In the Church the rules were set by a powerful governing body and local LDS congregations could not pick and choose who they wanted in their Priesthood. Prince Hall could not be ordained an elder in 1977. Prince Hall could not even hold the Aaronic Priesthood in 1977. You would think the Church would allow black males to hold the preparatory Priesthood to prepare them for the Melchizedek priesthood when the revelation came.

Why? It never occurred to them that such a revelation would ever come. Were that sort of thinking prevelant, women would hold the Aaronic priesthood, to prepare for the day when we will be ordained to the higher priesthood. And we know that's not going to happen for at least another generation.

Culturally speaking I participate in Mormonism. Religiously I am far from Mormonism.
