Anyone see the "Singles Ward" actor perform at the Tonys?

Post by _Rollo Tomasi »

Will Swenson, that is. He played "Jonathan" in the two "Singles Ward" movies (and the 'bad boy' best friend of Kirby Heyborne in "The RM"). He now has the lead role in "Hair" on Broadway, which won "Best Musical Revival" last night (Will was nominated as best actor, but I don't think he won). Anyhoo, at one point in the show Will (with very long hair) and his fellow hippie castmates did a great musical number while running throughout the audience. Here is how Entertainment Tonight described it:

The Hair hippies, who scored Best Musical Revival, gave a rousing performance of their title song and managed to mingle with the stars in the process. Nominees Will Swenson and Gavin Creel shook it on, above or with Gandolfini, Anne Hathaway, Edie Falco and Frank Langella.

I thought it was great to see a guy from all those goofy Mormon films make it big.

by the way, I hear he has left the Church.

From his resume: "WORKS WELL WITH GAYS". Is that some sort of code?

I was going to ask why he left the church, but never mind.

So the Mormon Cinema revolution of the early 2000s accomplished 2 things: It created at least 2 high profile apostates, and offered more proof that Mormon culture is very shallow in the art department.

I saw him!

I like his bellybutton.

As an aside, my fourteen year old daughter, Courtney, left for NYC at 4:30 this morning. She called several hours ago from La Guardia to tell me she had arrived. She's such a fine daughter.

Court, along with several friends and her theater instructor, is going to see Billy Elliot tomorrow night. That show picked up Best Play and nine other Tony awards. She couldn't possibly be more excited. I wish I were with her!

Does the lead character have a singing role in the number "Sodomy"?

Seems to me like in the original Hair, there was quite a big of nudity.
(Nevo, Jan 23) And the Melchizedek Priesthood may not have been restored until the summer of 1830, several months after the organization of the Church.

Not that working well with gays is bad, but flaunting it the way he does is. The worst kind of antiMormon. Interesting how many in the arts become subsumed by morality problems.
