LDS Fine Print

Just something I posted over on MAD. I was wondering if I have gone off the deep end in the "nit pick" category.

I have noticed, of late, that the promises of the Church have a "genie" effect to them. You get to ask for a wish and have it come true, but there is always a huge and ironic catch to it. Take this faith promoting rumor (that Fast Offerings stay in the ward), for example. It is technically true that the money stays in the ward in the account associated with FO. But later you find out that it is sent to SLC and is sort of like tithing. Technically true, but also false.

Think about priesthood blessings. Growing up, you are taught that as the restored church, we have the same authority to heal as Jesus Christ. We are told stories of Joseph Smith healing people. But when you get your hands greasy and give it a shot, THEN it's "according to the will of god" or the giver or receiver is not faithful enough. I bet you didn't think THAT'S how it would work. It goes on, though. We are taught that Joseph Smith translated the Book of Mormon using the power of God using the UT. Then we find out about the hat. Yeah, still done by the power of God, but wow. How about the Book of Abraham? Joseph Smith translated it, only he didn't. How about prophets? Prophets are supposed to talk to God like Joseph Smith did. What do you get? A still small voice.

I think you could go on and on and on. God must be a lawyer.

Ville Gud gjøre sånn? Nei, aldri i livet.
