endowment depicted in Big Love episode?

Post by _Sethbag »

Time Magazine article on Big Love episode depicting the endowment.

So, has this episode been broadcast yet?

If so, how was it? Was it accurate? Can the producers be accused of getting it wrong, or is their only offense having done it at all?

Anyhow, I thought this comment after the article was pretty funny:

It is all fair game. Is a Mormon ceremony really that much more intimate and private then say, some people having sex, or the President praying to God, or any number of other often depicted scenes?
.
If we start not showing certain LDS practices because it might upset some people, then before you know it, we might not be able to peaceafully make fun of scientologists.
.
No one wants that to happen.

Yep, its been broadcast. It was highly accurate aside from the blue aprons instead of green. Unfortunately it was too short to show most of the details but what it did show was decent.

Well, I'm relieved to know that the sky didn't fall down. God will not be mocked, you know.

In what context was it shown? I haven't watched any Big Love episodes since my wife turned off our HBO a year and half or two years ago.

Short summary:

Barb finds out she's getting ex'd. Wants to go to the Temple one last time to "feel peace". Pleads with her mom and sister to go with her (and lend a recommend). They are then shown in a prayer circle (with associated motions), and then Barb goes through the veil (with close-ups on hand signs). They then talk in the Celestial Room until a worker tells them "Your fifteen minutes are up". Apparently, you only get fifteen minutes of fame and chat time in the celestial room.

Actually, the aprons in the show were green; there was a picture in TV guide that made them look blue for some reason. But the show got it right.

I think the biggest "mistake" they made was to have Barb ask her sister and mom to borrow one of their recommends, but then all three of them are shown inside.

I think for every church member who writes in and complains a mason should write to church HQ and do the same. Each should carry the same weight.

The temple bit, which I saw by checking on Google video, almost made me wish I were active LDS again. I always loved the temple. Then they got to the disciplining part, and I remembered why I am not active anymore.

Ha! Well, look at the OTO, etc for other organizations "ripping off" freemasons. As a Freemason I don't think causing a stink would be productive to the craft.
