Re: Correspondence between X and Dr. Daniel C. Peterson
In general, the way I deal with "BYU bashers" is to teach classes on Islamic philosophy and Arabic literature and Middle Eastern history and the like as well as I can; to publish texts in BYU's Islamic Translation Series, Eastern Christian Texts series, Library of the Christian East, and Medical Works of Moses Maimonides that will bring international attention and respect to the University; to do credible research and publication in my field; and etc.
It's a little different playing field, I'll grant you, than a message board audience consisting of several bitter internet critics of Mormonism, but it's the one I've chosen.

You may be right. Except I thought that DrDCP was the official voice of BYU (sent on Earth to correct the BYU bashers).
I suspect that's not part of his calling or his job. And were Daniel to actually take that upon himself, it might majorly piss off the real voice of BYU. And we know Daniel doesn't want to do that. We have ample evidence of what happens when someone does piss off the real voice of BYU. (*hint*: they get fired)
(Nevo, Jan 23) And the Melchizedek Priesthood may not have been restored until the summer of 1830, several months after the organization of the Church.

With this comment, you have crossed the line into pure douchebaggery. When the results of my HIV research are published in Nature, I'll be sure to send you a copy. Goodbye.

And when you do (publish in Nature), we will then know your real name?

You can stop acting like a tool at any time.
“I was hooked from the start,” Snoop Dogg said. “We talked about the purpose of life, played Mousetrap, and ate brownies. The kids thought it was off the hook, for real.”

Hey, he's probably the guy with the laser pointer! That's what Tweedy said. The douchebag did it.
Some already posted youtube clips for you to watch when you get the chance:
A nice video of Impossible Germany.
A clip of the encore song you don't like.
This is why Courtney thinks only thirty-something computer geeks like Wilco. (The dude riding by on the Rascal scooter makes me laugh.)

From an earlier post, quoting me: "My claim is intended to be offensive. If it was not true, it would not be offensive."
and then, from you above:

You seem to be claiming that the verb "to be offensive" is the same as the verb "taking offense." Back to English 101?
Nice try, but I made no such claim. Playing your game though I could say that you seem to be saying that you take offense at some things that are not offensive. If so, I pity you.
That's General Leo. He could be my friend if he weren't my enemy.

Too bad it is out of print and I can't find a used copy. The reviewer talks about Paul and Seneca. I believe that Abraham Malherbe became the leading authority on Stoicism and Paul. I enjoyed his commentary on the epistles to the Thessalonians. The basic idea that Christianity is very much a religion of the Roman Empire seems indisputable to me. As more work continues to be done in this vein, the picture will come into clearer focus.
