I would also point out that there are many, many buildings that are built with fine craftsmanship and big budgets all over the world, from fine homes to upscale office buildings. The story makes it sound like everything that is built these days is cheap crap, except for the LDS Temples.

And Temple construction does have a budget, where decisions need to be made. It's not all gold-leaf and diamond-encrusted doorknobs. I was good friends with the supervisor on the LA Temple refurbishment that was done a couple of years ago, and he frequently mentioned problems with budgets and materials as would happen on any construction job. He certainly didn't have a blank check; everything was put through a cost/benefit analysis.

Do they warn against Paul H. Dunn stories as well?

Those are certainly faith promoting fiction, are they not?

Today was our monthly high council Sunday, and one of the talks was on Mormon "folklore." The speaker said the stories aren't true, don't pass them around, and people shouldn't base their testimonies on these stories.

I was shocked to hear this coming from the pulpit!

Those stories were always one of the best things about the church. The church is becoming so dry and boring...
