I always enjoyed her posts, often clever and humorous.

What a hilarious, witty, smart and wonderful person. She was battling leukemia...for all we knew she was doing better--she's been playing her dulcimer and autoharp with her band recently--- but she died yesterday apparently.
I'm heartbroken.

What a sad loss for humanity.
She had Magical way of touching everyone around her, including RFM readers
who enjoyed her posts so much.
I didn't know she was ill.

I didn't know her, but condolences to those who did. Cancer is no respecter of persons or age, and it can strike anyone, anywhere, anytime. According to a 2002 report, cancer is the leading cause of death by disease in children aged 1-14 in the US. In the US and Britain, where smoking rates have markedly declined since 1970, cancer death rates continue to rise.

According to official figures recently published, the incidence of cancer in England and Wales has risen by around 20% in men and 30% in women since 1970. Between 1950 and 1999, the proportion of deaths due to cancer rose from 15% to 27% for men and from 16% to 23% for women. (Note: The National Statistics Office says this may be due to better reporting of cases.)

It's not that the good die young, or old bastards live beyond 90, it's just that life is a lottery.

Cancer mortality rates have dropped slightly each year for the last 3 years, mostly due to increased early detection of breast cancer and decreasing smoking rates in adults. However, in some populations, it continues to kill at increasing rates, due to lack of early detection, poor lifestyle choices, and lack of access to care. The population that is most likely to die from cancer is poor, rural, and white.

I'm sorry to hear of Deenie's death. She sounds like she was a delightful person. Unfortunately, she's one of about half a million who will die this year... and next year... and the next year. Join the fight against cancer; help us help everyone to have more birthdays.

Loving daughter of Marian (the late Ki) Voog and the late Tony Stein; beloved sister of Diane (Chris) Fischer and Julie Stein (Alan Koffron); adored aunt of Karl, Eric, and Anna; also survived by many aunts, uncles, cousins, best friends Maggie and Jack Ferguson, Dennis and Annie Kingsbury, Jim and MaryJo Bizer, and many other wonderful friends. Funeral Mass Saturday, June 20, 2009, 10 a.m. with an In State of 9:30 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 715 N. Lapeer Rd., Lake Orion.
