Re: Islam in the United States, with Mormons
You may well, for all I know, be sweetness itself, off line.
I have no experience with that side of you, if indeed it exists.
Margaret Toscano and Dan Vogel and Richard Abanes and Dennis Wright and many other critics of Mormonism and the Church have been civil and pleasant in their exchanges with me.

Actually, when I first posted to you several years ago on FAIR, I was very civil. It's reasonable to assume you don't remember that, or your less than civil reply. It's not important that you weren't civil (ie. I wasn't hurt by it) except to the extent which you think the lack of civility is one-sided.
You're correct; when I talk to you online, I'm not civil. I've never pretended to be civil to you on this particular board. I talk to people the way they talk to me (and to others). I find it amusing to do so. Just ask Kevin Graham.
I will reiterate for your benefit, since it seems to have gone unnoticed: I do not make any pronouncements about you personally when I talk about you; I'm referring completely to the way you present yourself though your posts. It's amusing to me that you think you should be given a pass for the way you appear online because people "haven't met you" but tend to not extend the same courtesy.
God belief is for people who don't want to live life on the universe's terms.

Four people vs. the hundreds---if not thousands, at this point--that you patently cannot get along with? Color me unimpressed.

I don't care about impressing you, Scratchy.
I do, though, think it's hilarious that you think you know how many friends I have, or whether I get along with people socially.
And that you imagine that "Margaret Toscano and Dan Vogel and Richard Abanes and Dennis Wright and many other critics of Mormonism and the Church" refers to only four (4) people.
Stick to malicious gossip, Scratchy. Arithmetic isn't your strong suit.
And you're probably wise not to attempt to comment on the actual subject of the thread and the opening post. You don't do substance well, as we both know. It would probably turn out to be embarrassing.

I never claimed to know. (And when were we ever talking about "people" generally?) I relied only on what you specifically wrote. (I'm afraid I can't grant much merit to your very vague "and many other critics." ) You *say* you get along fine with these people. Unfortunately, as you yourself have said, there are two sides to this story. You have too long a record of sophistry and equivocation, so I'm afraid that you just can't be trusted on this one.
The sad truth here, Dan, is that there is page after page online of you fighting with people and behaving in high uncivil ways. I'm sorry, but you tossing out a few names does very little to establish your case. Frankly, *I* get along with a higher percentage of TBMs than you get along with critics. And I find that absolutely, uproariously funny. It's a pity that your sense of irony has vanished, otherwise you'd think this was funny, too.
Stick to malicious gossip, Scratchy.
What "malicious gossip"? I defy you to cite a single specific example. Something along the lines, of say, your malicious gossip about Mike Quinn. You won't be able to find a single thing that you yourself haven't discussed publicly.
So, it has to be asked: what can be said about your comment here? Does it have merit? Or are you engaging in your typical gutter-level spin?
Arithmetic isn't your strong suit.
And civility isn't yours.

I do "substance" just fine when I feel like it. But why bother engaging in substance with a person who has been on a sick, degenerate crusade of incivility, equivocation, spin-doctoring, and character assassination for the past few decades?

LOL. Right.
And, when I feel like it, I can run a three-minute mile. Trust me.

Scratchy.
What the hell kind of name is that? My goodness, it amuses me how you guys insult each other with silly little name calling.
Scratchy! As if something must be itching.

While I agree that cowardliness is a character flaw, I don't think desiring to protect the lives of innocent others is. I think that's what cksalmon had in mind.
As I wrote earlier, there was no good reason in my mind to delete this thread. Even Dr. Peterson chose not to delete his posts which contained quoted material of mine though I had deleted my own comments. Though many folks may have disagreed with cks's proposal that this thread be deleted, I cannot imagine any other motive on his part other than concern for young, unarmed and naïve Mormon missionaries who may be eventual targets for Muslim extremists.
An overreaction? Well, that's up for debate. But a disappointing character flaw? I, for one, don't think so. For what it's worth. :)
I hope your evening is going well,
Kimberly Ann
I really do appreciate your response, Kimberly Ann. You have gotten exactly to the heart of my concern.
I consider radical Islam a vicious, fatal cancer upon the world. My only point was that radical Muslims will use any excuse whatsoever, however benign, to buttress, always flimsily, with the most disgusting whining, and in terms that sane individuals would find utterly bereft of justification, their campaign of repetitive, suicidal, serial murder. All in the name of Allah.
These are the "chapel Muslims."
Cowardice, in my opinion, enters the equation when American academicians feign ignorance of the utterly insatiable bloodlust of "chapel Islam" and propagate a demonstrably false view of Islam as a misunderstood religion of "peace" which happens to have a few, very vocal, radical adherents.
One can find headlines daily of the murder, torture, and intimidation of innocents promulgated by chapel Muslims in their jihad against the West.
How will it end for the American soldier recently captured by Taliban insurgents in eastern Afghanistan? As God is my witness, I pray peacefully.
More likely is that he'll have his head carved off on Al Jazeera.
Mormon missionaries deserve better than to be used as disposable victims in chapel Islam's never ending jihad against the West. That was my only point.

I'm still debating within myself whether this is an over-reaction. I think it is. But if you can give some evidence of this possibility, I'll do back-flips all the way to Sydney.
