See link below to Des News article. With the help of a teary Glenn Beck, the gulliable folks in the stadium thought Old Glory was actually being burned, but it was all a con. Suckers ....
"Moving beyond apologist persuasion, LDS polemicists furiously (and often fraudulently) attack any non-traditional view of Mormonism. They don't mince words -- they mince the truth."
-- Mike Quinn, writing of the FARMSboys, in "Early Mormonism and the Magic World View," p. x (Rev. ed. 1998)
When I was working in my grad program at BYU, a friend and I decided to watch the fireworks from the "Stadium of Fire". We were both really poor students and couldn't afford the tickets to get in. Neither could the other thousands of people sitting on curbs along streets outside the stadium. We found a nice place to sit and waited for the fireworks to start. We figured we'd get a good show. But, when the fireworks started, all the stadium parking lights were turned on, so instead of watching some amazing explosions in the sky, we were staring at glaring white bulbs. People got pissed. We left and went home. Now that I have a decent job and enough money to pay for a ticket to the "Stadium of Fire", I won't go because of how they treat those that can't afford to get in.
Moral of the story: It doesn't pay to be a freeloader.
PS: from the article
"We felt, in the spirit and reverence of the moment, that we didn't need to say explicitly that we were not burning the flag," he said. "By dissecting the ceremony, you are going to take away the sacredness."

Holy Jesus.
Sounds like something Paul Dunn would have said.

And, ahem, speaking of the 4th again!!!!
"It's not so much that FARMS scholarship in the area Book of Mormon historicity is "rejected' by the secular academic community as it is they are "ignored". [Daniel Peterson, May, 2004]
So a bunch of conservatives (led by semi-functional retard/patriotic numbskull Glenn Beck) were pissed because someone didn't burn the flag?
Cue Twilight Zone music...
Whatever appears to be against the Book of Mormon is going to be overturned at some time in the future. So we can be pretty open minded.-charity 3/7/07

This is so stupid. The Fire Department can be so out of control. Its retiring a flag, and they are worried about fumes off a flag in a stadium? This is rampant, out of control, beurocracy at its finest.
What you do in a situation like this is the old "oops, flag meant to be retired slipped into the real burn part, silly me".
Stupid beurocrats.
