So Gaz - you are saying that papyrus or paper or wood cannot last 1500 years sealed in pottery underground in New York. Or are you saying it was not New York. You are saying now it was South America.
Im saying moisture and paper don't mix. Jospeh Smith had obvious problems preserving the Book of Mormon papers in a led lined box buried in the foundation of a building over the period of a few decades.
And I have always favored Panama as the narrow neck of land. Moroni could hike to New York. . . . .

Personal question, Gaz: What do you think about Nibley sexually abusing his daughter? Do you find it problematic or irrelevant to his scholarly endeavors?[/quote]
A personal Q. to you; Were you there when Nibley abused his daughter? Do you have daughters? What if they come forward 20 years later claiming you abused them?

Gaz, you really believe this crap theory? Traversing North America on horseback with 70Kilos of Gold, without provisions? I hiked North American deserts all my life, in couple occasions without water. I know for fact, he could never make it without knowing where the hell he was going to. Even with the best Horse, how could he negotiate huge geological barriers like Grand Canyon or Appalachians? Okay, you might say God helped him, with directions, provisions. This I find hard to believe, when I was in the desert without water God didn't even blink. I was left to my own survival skills to make it out.

You are asking question a lowlife would ask.
1. Obviously not. I'd have to be born first. 2. No. 3. They wouldn't.
Given my background and what I do now, I tend to believe people when they say they were abused and try not to look for character flaws as reasons to disbelieve or even attack abuse victims.
I don't see any good reason to disbelieve Martha Beck's claims (or call her names), except, of course, if you don't want to believe her.
I'm getting frustrated with this book. Was there or was there not an apostasy. If there was then why is Nibley using sources such as writings of early church fathers or sixth century apocrypha to prove strenghten his piece. Were these guys inspired when they wrote what they did is that first millennium of Christianity. Some may say sometimes yes and sometimes no. Well that's the same thing they say about Joseph Smith - some times yes and sometimes no - then what is the difference?

Besides the plates he also had the Liahona, the sword of Laban, and the breastplate with the Urim and Thummim. Im guessing he had either a horse, or at the very least a llama, or alpaca.
Also you may have failed to take into account the large mass of people that has been crossing the desert by the thousands from south america and mexico over the last ten years. Not only is this trip possible, its quite common.
