'Love advocates' plan 'kiss-in' at Main Street Plaza
Deseret News

Former Salt Lake City Councilwoman Deeda Seed is organizing a "kiss-in" at Main Street Plaza on Sunday following an incident in which two gay men were cited for trespassing on the LDS Church-owned property.

Seed is calling for all people to bring their loved ones — husbands, wives, boyfriends, girlfriends, kids and even pets — to the downtown plaza between 9 a.m. and 10 a.m. and show their love with a smooch....cont'd

Dwight,

Will there be judges on hand to distinguish between "love" and "Lust"?

Quick question: would a heterosexual couple that holds hands or kisses on the Main Street Plaza have been asked to leave by security?

Now, if they were french kissing and showing a lot of tongue in the process, maybe a heterosexual couple would get asked to leave. But a kiss on the cheek and holding hands? Never.

On past threads about the church's attitude towards homosexuals, when the canard arises that the church opposes homosexual acts in the same way it opposes any sexual acts outside of marriage, it's been pointed out that the church would not be comfortable with a gay couple sitting in sacrament, holding hands, or caressing one another's back, the way heterosexual couples do. The church would act in a disciplinary way towards a homosexual couple that was dating and kissing, but not having sex. So clearly the church is being coy here - they obviously oppose homosexuality, not just homosexual sex.

Back in the old days, leaders of the church were more willing to spit in the face of larger society and aggressively assert their real beliefs about gentiles, african-americans, etc. Today, the church is extremely PR conscious, and this is leading to the transparently false statements they make about homosexuality.

I'm sure they would treat it the same as other acts. If they were aware that an adulterous couple was kissing in the plaza I'm sure they'd be asked to leave too.

Seriously? You really believe that? I'm having a hard time understanding how anyone could think that after spending a few minutes on the plaza on a nice summer day. What does adultery have to do with this? Are you saying that a gay kiss is comparable to adultery? What about all of the dating/engaged couples that kiss in the plaza all the time?

I wonder if they'd stop incestuous kisses? Wouldn't want an aunt kissing her nephew (especially if you are the nephew).

I do. I also realize it's all but impossible for them to tell when a heterosexual couple is adulterous. I am saying that a gay kiss is comparable to an adulterous kiss (i.e. a married person not with their spouse). I have no problem with the dating/engaged heterosexual couples kissing in the plaza.

Homosexual sin in this case bears the burden of being blatantly obvious.

I also think it is pretty darn foolish to try to make the case that this gay couple was treated the same as any other "affectionate" couple would have been, given all the kissing newlyweds that smooch all over that plaza while professional photographers document the practice.

Despite what they may or may not have said, I believe it's highly likely they did it on purpose, knowing full well it would get them into trouble, for the sake of publicizing their agenda.

Of course they're lying, bc. There can be no other default position. They're homosexual, so they must be lying.

Good grief.
