Sources

Post by _harmony »

A long companion of mine died recently: my computer is fried. And with it went many of my sources for various topics. So I'm asking for some help.

Where do I find the most authorative sources for:

1. the various versions of the First Vision, with dates attached.

2. the support for and documentation of the restoration of the higher priesthood and it's relationship to the founding of the church.

3. the argument that explains how Moroni could visit Joseph and have conversations with him, while Joseph's sibling(s) slept in the same room and/or bed.

4. the 1st and 2nd Watson letters.

5. Joseph's denials of plural marriage while in Nauvoo.

6. the church history timeline. (I had this and I lost it. )

7. the text of the Zelph account, the 3 Nephites, and the King Follett sermon.

There are lots of sources for these items on the 'net, but I'd like the most authorative source.

Thanks in advance.
(Nevo, Jan 23) And the Melchizedek Priesthood may not have been restored until the summer of 1830, several months after the organization of the Church.

1. Milton Backman's book. It is available for purchase still used. Also, a recent publication, "Opening the Heavens."

2. Quinn's "Power" book although I disagree with it. I compare that to FARMS reviews to understand the dispute.

3. Beats me. Jesus appeared to Saul in the midst of companions and they didn't see Him.

4. Does the second letter exist? I hope not.

5. George Smith's recent book on Nauvoo Polygamy; read in context with the recent FARMS review of his work.

6. Andrew Jensen's chronology; available many places.

7. The King Follett sermon was published about 5 years ago in a Relief Society manual. It is in the Journal of Discourses. Teachings of the Prophet Joseph Smith.

8. Zelph: BH Roberts' CHC.

Thanks. At least that gives me a place to start looking!

See, Bob? It isn't that hard to actually be nice once in a while. You even get a "thank you" for it. See how that works?
