I'm rapidly revising my estimate of your age downward.

Can I be 14 again, please! I don't want to grow up.

So far as I'm aware, neither Brant Gardner nor Bill Hamblin pays any attention to this place, so challenging them here is pretty silly.

Hey President Obama! I challenge you to a debate, on this board, regarding your health care plan!

Huh. I better remind DCP, even though I know he is out of town right now doing something very important and culturally significant, that not even Bill Hamblin is as important as President Obama. So challenging DCPs apologist friends here is not in fact at all like challenging Obama here.

And further, these two apologists ought to pay attention to this place. There may be no better venue for them to get feedback on their work. Their work is of no interest to the scholarly community. The apologists will just agree with them no matter what, in addition to not being qualified to review their work. There are hobbyists here willing to critique it, so, that's probably about is good as they could ever hope for.
Lou Midgley 08/20/2020: "...meat wad," and "cockroach" are pithy descriptions of human beings used by gemli? They were not fashioned by Professor Peterson.

LM 11/23/2018: one can explain away the soul of human beings...as...a Meat Unit, to use Professor Peterson's clever derogatory description of gemli's ideology.

I'm flying to Orlando tomorrow, to speak to a gathering of the Muslims of Central Florida:

Yes, I think that's moderately important and at least a bit culturally significant. Not as important or culturally significant, perhaps, as listening to a tune by Bat for Lashes, but still . . .

Gadianton wrote:that not even Bill Hamblin is as important as President Obama. So challenging DCPs apologist friends here is not in fact at all like challenging Obama here.

It's relevantly similar in the sense that challenging President Obama here is silly, because he pays no attention to this wonderful place, just as challenging Bill Hamblin here is silly, since he pays no attention to the antics on this board. If you would prefer somebody else for an analogy, feel free to substitute, say, the governor of Indiana, the president of Baylor University, Mick Jagger, the chief nuclear officer of the U.S.S. Nebraska, the mayor of Bullittsville, Kentucky, the kindergarten teacher at Cherry Hill Elementary School, or any other of the billions of people who pay no attention to this board.

Once you've chosen your person, start a thread here challenging him or her to a debate, amidst predictions that he or she won't have the courage to accept your challenge.

Gadianton wrote:And further, these two apologists ought to pay attention to this place. There may be no better venue for them to get feedback on their work.

Oh, now that is funny.

Oh my, yes.

As a venue for sustained, deep, scholarly discussion, this may well be the center of the universe.

Gadianton wrote:Their work is of no interest to the scholarly community.

You speak rather confidently for "the scholarly community." Do you live in it? On the outskirts, maybe? Is it near Sacramento, perhaps?

Scholars I know. Different academic fields I know. But "the scholarly community"? This unitary monolith? I'm not familiar with it.

Gadianton wrote:The apologists will just agree with them no matter what,

That is, of course, not true. And demonstrably so.

Gadianton wrote:in addition to not being qualified to review their work.

That's not true, either.

Gadianton wrote:There are hobbyists here willing to critique it, so, that's probably about is good as they could ever hope for.

Conversing with Some Schmo, Polygamy Porter, Joey, Gadianton Plumber, solomarineris, Mercury, Nomomo, LDS Doubter . . . Oh yes. How deeply satisfying that would be for them! 'Twould be bliss, in that dawn, to be alive, but to be young would be very heaven.

Jersey, if you don't have something with Springsteen's name on it somewhere in your house, I'm going to be majorly disappointed.

Yes, I want to know why you wrote this list. I don't know what is going on with this board today. Either I'm the only sober person reading or I'm totally stoned and don't know how I got stoned.

Are people supposed to post their own lists?

Stuff on my desk is kinda bizarre.

Oh. Are you kidding? Heck yes, I do. I have Springsteen CD's and a framed Rolling Stone Magazine cover with Springsteen on it.
