2 Nephi 2:23 And they would have had no children; wherefore they would have remained in a state of innocence, having no joy, for they knew no misery; doing no good, for they knew no sin.

Why would they have not been able to have children? They had all the right parts, didn't they? Is sex in itself a sin?

And secondly, the connotation of "doing no good, for they knew no sin" is that sin is the root cause of "joy."

They could not have children in the garden was because they had no blood, therefore they had no semen or eggs to place it in. Their bodies changed a great deal after the Fall. Sex itself is not a sin withen the bounds of marriage.

Sin offered them a contrast to Joy. They could not recognize good without its contrast. Growing up as spirit children of God withen his household they knew only joy. To advance to where the Father is, they will have to learn to deal with hardships and dissappointment, For the Father deals with this constantly.

Correct, that is what I was refering to. What is your opinion of that? As I understand it, that view of the Fall is unique to Mormonism. An understanding of that view gives one an entirely new perspective on life and our purpose here.

So Gaz I gave you my perspective. Do you have any comments? I previously asked you a few questions. Do you think your perspective gives you an advantage of some kind over mine (atheists), Jews, Buddhists, other Christian groups, Muslims or is your perspective (Mormonism) simply different?

But isn't it doctrine that Heavenly Father has children without blood?

Also, isn't part of doctrine that they were commanded to replenish the earth, to have children, but Eve eating the fruit cast a wrench into the situation?

Isn't the big question, "how could they have obeyed the command if they didn't sin?"

It is odd to me that God would want them to sin in order to obey.

Sin offered them a contrast to Joy. They could not recognize good without its contrast. Growing up as spirit children of God withen his household they knew only joy.

So they had joy before they sinned, but then had to sin in order to experience more joy? Sorry Gaz, but this part just doesn't make a lot of sense to me.
