2 Nephi 2:23 And they would have had no children; wherefore they would have remained in a state of innocence, having no joy, for they knew no misery; doing no good, for they knew no sin.
Why would they have not been able to have children? They had all the right parts, didn't they? Is sex in itself a sin?
And secondly, the connotation of "doing no good, for they knew no sin" is that sin is the root cause of "joy."
They could not have children in the garden was because they had no blood, therefore they had no semen or eggs to place it in. Their bodies changed a great deal after the Fall. Sex itself is not a sin withen the bounds of marriage.
Sin offered them a contrast to Joy. They could not recognize good without its contrast. Growing up as spirit children of God withen his household they knew only joy. To advance to where the Father is, they will have to learn to deal with hardships and dissappointment, For the Father deals with this constantly.
