Official origins of the Temple Ceremony?
What is the origins of the temple ceremony?
Are the origins taught at all?
Given how important it is to our theology, why is it not recorded in our canon?
I have heard it went through changes, may we discuss those here?

Joseph Smith created it under the inspiration of God.

Yes, see above.

Our theology? You believe it? It's not recorded to keep it from becoming common.
I have heard it went through changes, may we discuss those here?
You can, but most LDS won't participate.

How vague. I've heard it originated from his involvement in Free Masonry. Why is that not part of the history? The Nehor wrote:mormonmessages wrote:What is the origins of the temple ceremony?

Show me where that is recorded.Given how important it is to our theology, why is it not recorded in our canon? The Nehor wrote:Our theology? You believe it? It's not recorded to keep it from becoming common.

Additionally, please point me to the scripture which details the temple ceremony during the time of Christ.

Because there is no official history. Joseph never wrote down when it was revealed or how. If you want to speculate, feel free. Part of what history????
Show me where that is recorded.
Read any General Conference talk that discusses the Temple and why we don't share it.
Why?
Because they take their covenants seriously.
Additionally, please point me to the scripture which details the temple ceremony during the time of Christ.
Sure, it's in Jerome's Appendix to the Apocrypha 1:54.
Wow, did you get these questions for a website?

So how can we be sure it is accurate temple to temple if it is not recorded??The Nehor wrote:Because there is no official history. Joseph never wrote down when it was revealed or how. If you want to speculate, feel free. Part of what history????
Part of the history of the church, silly boy.
Why not just quote it here Nehor.Sure, it's in Jerome's Appendix to the Apocrypha 1:54.
No, I am not getting these questions for a website. Why would you ask that?Wow, did you get these questions for a website?

It is recorded. It's written down in the Temples. The process of getting it is not written down.

Please tell me you're joking here....
No, I am not getting these questions for a website. Why would you ask that?Wow, did you get these questions for a website?
Because they're insipid and contribute nothing and either you (as LDS) have a rather bizarre set of interests or you're trying to trap LDS with these cute questions that sound oh so clever to you.

Re: Official origins of the Temple Ceremony?
I read a great book called The Mysteries of Godliness A HISTORY OF Mormon TEMPLE WORSHIP
by David John Buerger.
He relies on journals and letters and pieces together the different ceremonies beginning with the washings and anointing s at the Kirtland Temple. There are letters from the president of the church telling temple presidents to change this to this stop this, and this will remain. Usually the U.S. citizens are angry about something and the Church quietly changes it.
also see this link for a good discussion and you need to go to the top and read down. You should be a scholar when you get through.

Thanks for that link! A lot of reading, but well worth it. I hope the original poster on this thread takes the time to read it...

For a rich history regarding the Temple I would recommend Hugh Nibleys incredible book "Temple and Cosmos".
