We happen to deal with who owns the term "Mormon" in tomorrow's podcast. I'm sure you'll enjoy giving it a listen.

It is not a question of who owns a term. It is however a question of honesty. For example, if I were searching the internet and came across a site called 'Catholic Expressions' I would be expecting catholics talking about Catholicism. I would not be expecting excatholics being critical of the catholic faith. I would then conclude that the site was dishonest in its intent.

Likewise for a site called Mormon Expressions. I see no Mormon expressions but I do see a lot of exmormon expressions. Thus, in my opinion, the site is not being honest in what the name claims to be.

Thank you for the kind response. But it still does not address my original claim. Now for example, if I begin a site called exmormon expressions and I have a Mormons talking about the LDS faith in a positive way and I then include a couple of exmormons just for the heck of it. I would assume that the outcry from the exer crowd would be loud.

I am a Mormon not an ex-Mormon. The fact that I don't go to Church or believe has nothing to do with it.

I am a Mormon who is not a member of the church and thinks God is actually a large scavenging rodent, known as the Eternal Pink Rat.

If you say so. But I do believe that the term postmormon would apply to you. Now if your podcast was called Postmormon Expressions it would be more honest in what it tries to convey. But your podcast has absolutely nothing to do with Mormon expressions. Now I haven't listened to the last one, but I would bet a penny that it has nothing to do with Mormon expressions.

Am I right? I think so. The Mormon Church refers to the LDS church. In the eyes of many people, the Mormon church refers to the Salt Lake Church. And this is the problem when others try to incorporate that name onto themselves. Now of course, since the LDS church (Mormon) has millions of members and other splinter groups number no more than 250,000, you can see the problem with others attempting to co-op the term.

All churches would have this problem if competing groups would attempt to claim such terms as catholic, methodist etc.

Now the catholic church is the universal church. So, would it be possible for me to open a church and call it catholic? No.

The Mormon Church does not control Mormonism.

Listen for Tom. He has been kinda quiet in some of the previous ones, but he is coming out of his shell a bit.

You do hear a bit more from him in podcast #5.
